Job summary

Pranos Fusion is seeking an Electrical Engineer to design, develop, and commission high‑power electrical systems for tokamak plasma operations in Bengaluru. You will work on pulsed power supplies, protection circuits, and bus-bar infrastructure to energize coils and diagnostics.

The role requires a Masters or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Power Electronics and 3+ years of HV/pulsed-power experience in tokamak, plasma devices, or related facilities. CAD and PSPICE/PSCAD skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience with high-voltage or pulsed-power electrical systems in a tokamak, plasma device, or particle accelerator environment.
  • Experience with coil power supplies, thyristor switches, or crowbar protection systems.
  • Proficiency in electrical CAD tools and power system simulation software (PSCAD, PSPICE, or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of safety standards applicable to high-energy plasma research facilities.
  • Ability to read and produce detailed electrical schematics and wiring documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Design and specify high-power electrical systems for tokamak coil energization, including switching networks, protection interlocks, and grounding schemes.
  • Develop circuit schematics, wiring diagrams, and electrical layout drawings using CAD tools (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or equivalent).
  • Perform electrical analysis: fault current studies, arc-flash analysis, load flow, and transient simulations.
  • Collaborate with plasma physicists and mechanical engineers to integrate electrical systems with magnet coils, vacuum vessels, and diagnostics.
  • Manage procurement and quality assurance for high-voltage components.
  • Support commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of operational tokamak systems.
  • Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, and relevant safety standards for high-voltage laboratory environments.

Job description

Pranos Fusion is looking for an Electrical Engineer with hands-on experience in tokamak or plasma device systems. You will be responsible for the design, development, and commissioning of high-power electrical systems including pulsed power supplies, protection circuits, and bus-bar infrastructure that support our plasma operations.

Key responsibilities

Design and specify high-power electrical systems for tokamak coil energization, including switching networks, protection interlocks, and grounding schemes.

Develop circuit schematics, wiring diagrams, and electrical layout drawings using CAD tools (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or equivalent).

Perform electrical analysis: fault current studies, arc-flash analysis, load flow, and transient simulations.

Collaborate with plasma physicists and mechanical engineers to integrate electrical systems with magnet coils, vacuum vessels, and diagnostics.

Experience with coil power supplies, thyristor switches, or crowbar protection systems.

Knowledge of safety standards applicable to high-energy plasma research facilities.

Ability to read and produce detailed electrical schematics and wiring documentation.

Preferred experience

Experience at a major tokamak facility (JET, KSTAR, DIII-D, WEST, or similar).

Familiarity with supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems for plasma device operation.

Exposure to FPGA-based protection systems or fast interlock logic.

Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent.
