  • Translate customer, vehicle, and system-level requirements into detailed motor product requirements and engineering specifications.
  • Support the definition and development of motor architecture including stator, rotor, shaft, housing, bearings, cooling systems, insulation, and winding technologies.
  • Work closely with motor design engineers to optimize motor performance, efficiency, torque-speed characteristics, NVH, thermal performance, and reliability.
  • Support design trade-off studies considering performance, cost, manufacturability, weight, packaging, and scalability.
  • Participate in design reviews and ensure product requirements are properly cascaded across mechanical, electrical, thermal, and manufacturing domains.
  • Benchmark competing traction motor technologies, architectures, materials, and manufacturing approaches.
Product Requirements & System Engineering
  • Develop and maintain Product Requirement Documents (PRD), technical specifications, and product feature definitions.
  • Define key product performance parameters including power, torque, speed, efficiency, voltage, current, thermal limits, cooling requirements, and NVH targets.
  • Support requirement management and traceability throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Coordinate with vehicle OEMs and internal stakeholders to understand application-specific requirements and duty cycles.
  • Support system-level integration of the traction motor with inverter, transmission, battery, vehicle control systems, and thermal management systems.
  • Identify critical-to-quality (CTQ) and critical-to-performance (CTP) parameters for traction motor products.
Traction Motor Technology & Design
  • Develop technical understanding of various traction motor technologies including PMSM, IPM, SPM, induction motors, and emerging motor architectures.
  • Support engineering activities related to stator laminations, winding systems, hairpin technology, conventional winding, insulation systems, rotor assemblies, magnets, and cooling systems.
  • Evaluate different material and technology options including electrical steel, permanent magnets, copper conductors, insulation materials, adhesives, and thermal interface materials.
  • Support electromagnetic, thermal, mechanical, and NVH optimization activities in collaboration with simulation and design teams.
  • Participate in technology scouting and evaluation of next-generation motor technologies.
Validation, Testing & Performance Evaluation
  • Support development of Design Verification (DV) and Product Validation (PV) plans for traction motors.
  • Coordinate and monitor motor testing including performance mapping, efficiency, thermal performance, durability, vibration, NVH, dielectric strength, insulation resistance, and environmental testing.
  • Analyze test results and identify deviations from product requirements.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for validation failures.
  • Work with test laboratories and external partners for specialized validation activities.
  • Ensure test specifications, procedures, and acceptance criteria meet customer and industry requirements.
  • Support End-of-Line (EOL) test strategy and performance parameter definition.
