Job description

TeleBortiX is building state-of-the-art airborne systems.

You will architect the powertrain (motor-prop combinations, ESCs/inverters, generators for series-hybrid configurations), specify the energy storage (battery packs with BMS, fuel systems where relevant), design the HVDC bus and low-voltage distribution, and own the thermal management strategy.

Power-electronics design depth is central to this role — wide-bandgap (SiC / GaN) switch selection and characterisation, gate driver design, dV/dt and EMI mitigation, switching-loss budgets, and partial-discharge management on HVDC buses at altitude.

This role will interface across all TeleBortiX's product line.

This is a hands-on architect role with extensive analysis and engineering depth.

You will scope and review vendor work on detailed CAD, ESC firmware, and battery-pack development —

You will own the architecture, the FMEA, and the HV safety case.

Key Responsibilities
  • Architect the powertrain: motors, ESCs/inverters, generators, batteries, HV/LV distribution, contactors, BMS.
  • Design the HVDC bus architecture: voltage-class selection, distribution topology, protection coordination, arc-fault and DC-arc-flash mitigation, solid-state circuit breakers where appropriate.
  • Own power-electronics design — gate drivers for wide-bandgap (SiC / GaN) switches, switching-loss budgets, dV/dt and EMI mitigation, partial-discharge management at altitude.
  • Facilitate sizing and selection of propellers (with our Aero lead) and motors; analyse power and energy across the flight envelope.
  • Specify battery packs — cell selection, pack architecture, BMS, thermal-runaway mitigation — and fuel systems where applicable.
  • Design thermal management: cooling loops, heat exchangers, derating curves; produce 1-D thermal models and CFD spot checks. Include device-level thermal coupling for high-density power-electronics modules.
  • Lead propulsion-system and power-electronics bench testing — motor characterisation, ESC tuning, battery cycling, thermal soak, switching-waveform capture, EMI pre-compliance.
  • Own the propulsion FMEA and the HV safety case end-to-end.
  • Interface with the avionics team on motor control, ESC telemetry, BMS data, and emergency power-down strategy.
  • Coordinate with our Materials & Processes Lead on motor-mount composites and with our Manufacturing & Test Lead on integration and qualification.
Requirements

Candidates should meet four of the six criteria below to apply.

  • Formal engineering qualification in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Power Electronics, or Automotive Engineering — OR demonstrated equivalent technical capability through portfolio, published work, or prior shipped engineering.
  • 4-9 years in propulsion, electrified powertrains, or power electronics. Aerospace propulsion experience is preferred — but we explicitly welcome strong candidates from EV passenger / commercial powertrains, battery-pack design, inverter / motor-drive engineering, or solar / grid power electronics.
  • You have owned at least one production powertrain integration OR a substantial bench-validated subsystem (motor + ESC + cooling, or battery pack with BMS) to deployment or customer hand-off.
  • Comfortable in MATLAB / Simulink AND at least one of GT-Suite / NPSS / AMESim / Modelica, AND one electrical-simulation environment (PLECS, PSIM, LTspice, or Simulink Simscape) used for switching-loss, EMI, or thermal-coupling analysis on real hardware.
  • Genuine ownership mindset — you scope, integrate, test, and iterate; you don't wait to be told what to do next.
  • You have hands‑on experience with power and battery systems on fixed‑wing or multi‑rotor unmanned aircraft.

Note: Candidates whose skills or qualifications fall short of the criteria above may still apply if their interests are strongly aligned with TeleBortiX's vision. Make the case in your application note.

Strongly preferred
  • Battery system design at >100 V architecture; familiarity with UN 38.3, RTCA DO-311A, RTCA DO-160.
  • Direct experience designing gate drivers for SiC or GaN switches at >300 V; familiarity with Miller-plateau false turn-on, gate ringing, and high-side / low-side crosstalk mitigation.
  • EMI mitigation experience for high-dV/dt switching — common‑mode chokes, snubber design (or designed‑out parasitics), shielding strategy, motor‑bearing current mitigation.
  • Working knowledge of partial‑discharge, corona, and DC arc‑fault effects on HVDC bus systems at aerospace altitudes (reduced atmospheric pressure).
  • Distributed propulsion.
  • Working knowledge of motor thermal limits, demagnetisation, continuous vs. peak ratings.
  • Hands‑on with a flight or vehicle telemetry stack (CAN / CAN‑FD / UAVCAN‑DroneCAN, or automotive CAN / FlexRay).
  • AIS‑156 or ARAI EV powertrain familiarity — a transferable signal of safety‑first engineering culture.
  • Secondary depth in thermal management — this role significantly requires thermal management, we treat strong thermal‑side candidates seriously.
Tools & standards

MATLAB / Simulink • GT‑Suite / NPSS / AMESim / Modelica • PLECS / PSIM / LTspice / Simulink Simscape • CAN bus tooling • Bench test instrumentation (oscilloscope, current probes, dV/dt and dI/dt characterisation) • UN 38.3 • RTCA DO-311A and DO-160 awareness.
