The Opportunity

Eggs are nature’s perfect nutrition and can solve for India’s nutrition problem. However, out of 40 Crore eggs consumed daily in India, more than 97% are sold in loose and unpackaged format. Indian egg industry is largely unorganized at the backend as well as the frontend. A typical egg in India takes 8-10 days to reach a retail counter by the time it is not fresh and has lost nutrition values (by more than 50% as per research). With non-fresh eggs, there is a funny egg smell and runny texture of yolk and albumen, which is very common with Indian eggs. Farmers make thin margins and are dependent on unorganized trader and wholesalers. Due to low incomes and lack of knowledge, there is heavy usage of anti-biotics and chemicals in poultry feed that causes long-term health issues.

The business model is asset-light and tech-first where farmers are on boarded to an integrated platform, which includes poultry feed & nutrition integration using only herbal ingredients, and bird management technology to improve farmer income.

Job Summary

The Finance Controller is a crucial role within the finance department, responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of financial operations and reporting for the organization. This role ensures accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial activities while providing strategic guidance to senior management for making informed business decisions.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards (e.g., GAAP).
  • Consolidate financial data from various departments or subsidiaries, ensuring timely and accurate reporting to management and external stakeholders.
Internal Controls and Compliance
  • Establish and maintain internal control procedures to safeguard the organization’s assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor financial transactions and processes to identify and mitigate any potential risks or discrepancies.
  • Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits and reviews.
Cash Flow Management
  • Manage cash flow and liquidity to ensure sufficient funds are available for operational needs and strategic investments.
  • Implement cash flow forecasting and analysis to predict potential liquidity challenges and develop appropriate solutions.
Financial Operations
  • Supervise and manage the accounting team, ensuring accurate and timely recording of financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
  • Review and approve financial transactions, invoices, and expense reports.
  • Oversee payroll processing and tax compliance.
Strategic Financial Guidance
  • Collaborate with senior management to provide financial insights and recommendations that align with the organization’s goals and growth plans.
  • Participate in business strategy discussions, mergers and acquisitions, and capital investment decisions.
Team Leadership and Development
  • Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration, growth, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide training and professional development opportunities to enhance team members’ skills and knowledge.
Candidate Skills & Qualifications
  • Chartered Accountant.
  • Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in finance or accounting roles, with at least 2-3 years in a managerial or supervisory capacity.
  • Strong understanding of financial principles, regulations, and reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in financial software, ERP systems, and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
