Job summary

IHG Hotels & Resorts in Goa is seeking a proactive Hotel Engineer to support the Engineering team in maintaining building, plant, equipment and systems. The role focuses on safe, efficient operations with minimal guest disruption.

Key tasks include monitoring, preventive/corrective maintenance, energy use optimization and coordination with other departments. 3–5 years in hotel engineering is preferred, plus strong safety and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

  • Diploma/ITI in Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Civil or related engineering trade.
  • Degree or Diploma in Engineering/Hotel Engineering is an advantage.
  • 3–5 years of hotel engineering or maintenance experience.
  • Experience in an international hotel environment preferred.
  • Strong technical and troubleshooting skills; safety-conscious.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor daily operation of engineering systems and equipment.
  • Attend to maintenance requests from all hotel departments.
  • Respond to guest room and public area engineering complaints promptly.
  • Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Monitor electrical, HVAC, plumbing, water supply and other building systems.
  • Support operation and maintenance of utilities and plant equipment.

Job Role

To support the Engineering team in maintaining the hotels building, plant, equipment and engineering systems in a safe, efficient and reliable condition, ensuring minimum disruption to guests and hotel operations.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Operations

  • Monitor the daily operation of engineering systems and equipment.
  • Attend to maintenance requests from all hotel departments.
  • Respond promptly to guest room and public area engineering complaints.
  • Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Monitor electrical, HVAC, plumbing, water supply and other building systems.
  • Support operation and maintenance of utilities and plant equipment.
  • Maintain engineering logbooks and records.

Guest & Hotel Support

  • Respond quickly to engineering issues affecting guest comfort.
  • Coordinate with Front Office and other departments for room maintenance requirements.
  • Minimise guest inconvenience during maintenance activities.
  • Ensure work areas are kept safe and clean.

Preventive Maintenance

  • Follow preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Inspect equipment and identify potential failures.
  • Record maintenance activities and escal*ate* major issues.
  • Support contractors and specialist service providers when required.

Energy & Cost Control

  • Monitor energy and utility consumption.
  • Support initiatives to reduce electricity and water consumption.
  • Ensure equipment operates efficiently.
  • Avoid unnecessary wastage of materials and resources.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow fire and life safety requirements.
  • Ensure electrical and engineering work is carried out safely.
  • Use appropriate PPE and safety procedures.
  • Support statutory inspections and compliance requirements.
  • Report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Follow IHG standards and hotel engineering SOPs.

Teamwork

  • Coordinate with Housekeeping, Front Office, F&B, Security and other departments.
  • Support Engineering colleagues during emergencies and major maintenance activities.
  • Maintain professional communication and handovers.
What We Need From You

Education

  • Diploma / ITI / vocational qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Civil or a related engineering trade.
  • Degree/Diploma in Engineering or Hotel Engineering will be an advantage.

Experience

  • 3–5 years of relevant hotel engineering or maintenance experience.
  • Experience in an international hotel environment is preferred.

Technical Knowledge

  • Electrical systems.
  • HVAC systems.
  • Plumbing and water systems.
  • Pumps and basic mechanical equipment.
  • Preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Fire and life safety systems.
  • Energy and utility management.
  • Basic knowledge of building management systems is an advantage.
