Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 50+ technology professionals through M1 managers, ensuring engineering rigor in architecture, code quality, testing, CI/CD, security, and compliance.
  • Drive cloud-native development (AWS), microservices, API-first design, IaC, and platform thinking.
  • Champion AI adoption across the portfolio and integrate LLMs, agentic workflows, and automation.
  • Maintain high engineering standards for reliability, scalability, and performance.
  • Collaborate with DAA, CTI, and other Tech@Lilly teams to leverage shared platforms.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
15+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, technology delivery, or engineering leadership roles
Demonstrated track record of leading large engineering teams (50+ people) through M1/M2 management layers
Deep hands-on engineering background with modern cloud platforms (AWS preferred), distributed systems, and API-driven architectures
5+ years of experience managing global teams and stakeholder relationships across time zones

Role Overview

The Director, LUSA Tech@Lilly will lead a large and growing portfolio of technology delivery from LCCI Bengaluru. This role has been positioned with a primary focus on engineering leadership and business acumen, reflecting the maturity and scale of the portfolio to support Lilly USA affiliate business. The leader will drive technical excellence, AI-forward innovation, and deep partnership with Lilly USA business teams to deliver high-impact technology products across HCP engagement, field enablement, value & access, and customer support programs.

Portfolio Scope
  • Dynamic Targeting & Field-facing Omnichannel: All DT and omnichannel capabilities for the US affiliate, NBE for IBU and Medical
  • AI-Enabled Field Experience Products: iQ, Route Optimizer, and next-generation agentic AI-powered tools that transform the rep and field experience
  • Sales Operations Platforms: SFS 2.0, IC 2.0, One DataSpine, and platforms that drive sales operations efficiency
  • Sales & Marketing Data Intelligence: Data products serving this portfolio and Commercial operations & analytics users
  • Value & Access Technology: Technology products supporting Lilly Value & Access programs, including patient affordability, payer engagement, and access enablement platforms
  • Customer Support Programs: Technology solutions for customer support operations, case management, and service delivery
  • In-housing & Build Capabilities: RHM, FRM, and depending on resourcing, Greenhouse and Connected Medicines
Engineering Leadership Expectations

This is first and foremost an engineering leadership role.

  • Lead a team of 50+ technology professionals (FTEs and contingent workers) through M1 managers, ensuring engineering rigor in architecture, code quality, testing, CI/CD, security, and compliance
  • Drive modern engineering practices: cloud-native development (AWS), microservices, API-first design, infrastructure-as-code, and platform engineering thinking
  • Champion AI and agentic technology adoption across the portfolio – identifying opportunities where AI agents, LLMs, and machine learning can fundamentally improve products and workflows, not just augment existing approaches
  • Establish and maintain high engineering standards for reliability, scalability, and performance across all products in the portfolio
  • Partner closely with Lilly USA DAA (Data, Analytics & AI), CTI, and other horizontal technology teams within Tech@Lilly to leverage shared platforms and avoid duplication
  • Work across T@L capabilities including strategy, software development, engineering, QA, information security, and compliance to deliver high-quality results
Business Acumen Expectations
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the HCP engagement, field experience, value & access, and customer support domains to inform technology decisions
  • Serve as a credible technology partner to US business stakeholders – translating business strategy into engineering roadmaps and delivering outcomes that drive commercial impact
  • Coach M1 leaders to build complex products with strong business context, focused on a variety of field roles and customer touchpoints
  • Coach and develop the team to identify opportunities to build with AI and business context from the start, leveraging expertise across Tech@Lilly and Commercial operations
AI & Agentic Technology Focus
  • Drive an AI-first mindset across the engineering team – every new product and feature should be evaluated for AI and agentic opportunities
  • Partner with DAA and enterprise AI teams to integrate LLMs, agentic workflows, and intelligent automation into the portfolio
  • Build engineering team capabilities in AI/ML, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and agent orchestration frameworks
  • Identify and execute on opportunities to replace or augment rule-based systems with AI-powered decision-making and agentic workflows
People & Site Leadership
  • Coach and elevate the team through M1 leaders to integrate seamlessly with the global team of business area leaders, architects, project managers, designers, and developers
  • Serve as a role model leader in the LCCI ecosystem, driving close collaboration with Enterprise Tech functions at T@L and Commercial services teams
  • Actively lead site initiatives in engagement, communication, recruitment, collaboration, and innovation across Bangalore and Hyderabad
Portfolio Management
  • Plan, budget, track, and report financials – be a good steward of Lilly’s money
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives and ideas for positive disruption
  • Understand the big picture and create reusable patterns that solve problems for cross-functional teams
Required
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, technology delivery, or engineering leadership roles
  • Demonstrated track record of leading large engineering teams (50+ people) through M1/M2 management layers
  • Deep hands-on engineering background with modern cloud platforms (AWS preferred), distributed systems, and API-driven architectures
  • 5+ years of experience managing global teams and stakeholder relationships across time zones
  • Strong collaboration experience with horizontal technology capabilities and co-development with business function teams
  • Experience working closely with data, analytics, and AI teams to deliver intelligent products
Preferred
  • MBA or advanced degree
  • AWS Solution Architect – Associate or Professional certification; SAFe certifications
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry or regulated industries
  • Hands-on experience with AI/ML technologies, LLM integration, and agentic frameworks
  • Experience with SaaS/COTS platforms in the sales and marketing domain
  • Familiarity with value & access, patient support, or customer service technology domains
