Job summary

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) in Mumbai seeks a senior front office banker with 10–14 years of experience in structured financing. You will lead deal teams, structure bespoke financing, and coordinate KYC and credit processes while ensuring regulatory compliance.

The role requires a robust understanding of legal concepts in structured financing and strong communication with external counterparties and internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 10-14 years of front office experience in leading financial institutions with India presence.
• Robust knowledge of legal concepts related to structured financing and of financial equity and debt instruments.
• Good modelling experience and financial/risk analysis skills.
• Project management skills would be viewed favourably.
• University graduate with strong academic background.
• Articulate with strong written and oral communication.
• Good interpersonal skills with external counterparties and internal stakeholders.
• Intellectually curious, self-motivated and resourceful.

Responsibilities

• Originate structured financing opportunities in India in coordination with front office teams.
• Lead marketing of SPDA-SCG’s product expertise and bespoke financing proposals.
• Design and establish new product initiatives as needed.
• Autonomously lead deal teams through the full execution cycle: review opportunities, structuring, due diligence, and credit papers; assist with loan documentation and KYC.
• Ensure compliance with local regulations and internal controls.
• Support strategic initiatives and other tasks as defined.

• Originate structured financing from selected from new and existing clients in India, in coordination with other relevant front office teams including, but not limited to, coverage, distribution and other relevant product teams
• Take a leading role in marketing SPDA-SCG’s product expertise, by promoting bespoke and innovative financing proposals
• Engage in designing and establishing new product initiatives as needed
• Autonomously lead and manage deal teams assigned to handle transactions’ full execution cycle, including:
  • Review and preliminary assessment of new financing opportunities
  • Deal structuring and negotiation of term sheets
  • Conduct of due diligence / financial modelling
  • Assist execution team in running internal credit process including preparation or review of internal discussion papers, credit applications, Q&A etc…
  • Assist execution team in negotiating and reviewing loan documentations
  • Coordinate KYC and internal ancillary processes
• Ensure and promote a disciplined approach to all internal compliance requirements and applicable local regulations
• Support other strategic initiatives and perform other tasks as required/defined from time to time

• 10-14 years of front office experience in leading financial institution(s) with established presence in India , primarily dealing with structured financing, including: share-backed financing, back-leveraging, junior/subordinated debt or other type of bespoke financing, involving corporates and/or family offices
• Robust knowledge of (i) legal concepts applying to structured financing transactions and (ii) financial equity and debt instruments
• Good modelling experience and financial/risk analysis skills
• Demonstrable project management skills would be viewed favourably
• University graduate with strong academic background
