Job Title: Director, Software Engineering

We are seeking a Director, Software Engineering to lead and scale Ensemble’s Software Engineering organization based in India. This role is responsible for engineering strategy, delivery excellence, platform reliability, and people leadership across multiple product and platform teams. The Director will partner closely with Product Management, Architecture, Data, AI/ML, Security, and US leadership teams to deliver high-quality, secure, and scalable software platforms that support Ensemble’s long-term business and technology strategy.
Engineering Strategy & Platform Leadership: Define and execute the software engineering roadmap aligned with product and business priorities. Own architectural direction and technical standards across services, platforms, and applications. Drive enterprise-wide adoption of AI coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, and agent-based frameworks. Drive adoption of modern engineering practices including cloud-native design, microservices, event-driven architectures, and API-first development. Balance innovation with scalability, performance, security, and operational stability.
Execution & Delivery Excellence: Own end-to-end delivery for multiple software engineering teams and pods. Establish predictable delivery models through strong planning, capacity management, and dependency tracking. Design and scale agent-based development workflows (multi-agent orchestration for design, coding, testing, and PR preparation). Ensure production readiness, SLAs, incident management, and continuous improvement practices. Partner with Architecture and DevOps teams to improve CI/CD, observability, reliability, and deployment maturity.
Quality, Security & Compliance: Champion engineering quality, code standards, and design best practices across teams. Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory requirements relevant to healthcare technology. Drive engineering accountability for performance, scalability, availability, and cost optimization.
People Leadership & Talent Development: Lead and scale a large, multi-team Software Engineering organization. Manage and develop Senior Managers, Engineering Managers, Tech Leads, and senior engineers. Own hiring strategy, onboarding, performance management, succession planning, and leadership development. Build a strong engineering culture focused on ownership, accountability, technical excellence, and continuous learning.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner closely with Product, Data, AI/ML, Platform, Security, and Business leaders to align priorities. Communicate progress, risks, trade-offs, and roadmap decisions clearly to senior leadership. Translate complex business needs into executable technical strategies.
15+ years of experience in software engineering, product engineering, or platform engineering.
6+ years leading large, multi-team engineering organizations (30+ engineers).
Proven experience managing managers and senior technical leaders.
Strong hands‑on background in modern software engineering stacks (cloud platforms such as Azure/AWS, microservices, APIs, distributed systems).
Deep understanding of SDLC, DevOps, CI/CD, reliability engineering, and cloud operations.
Strong architectural mindset with the ability to influence cross‑team technical decisions.
Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence without authority.
