Job summary

Comcast in Chennai, India, seeks an accomplished Backend Engineer to design, build, and operate distributed Kotlin-based services that ingest and process video and metadata for Bedrock’s streaming platform.

You will own end-to-end production readiness, implement event-driven architectures with Kafka, and work across AWS/Kubernetes environments, collaborating with product, content operations, and platform teams.

Qualifications

• Backend engineer with distributed systems and platform integrations, Kafka/Kafka Streams, Avro schema management, exactly-once processing, REST/API integrations, and production operations.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Data JPA/JDBC, Flyway, PostgreSQL/Aurora Serverless, DynamoDB, AWS services (EKS, RDS, VPC), Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, GitLab CI/CD, and Shell/Bash and Python scripting.
• Experience delivering scalable services in production with AWS, Kubernetes, and data streaming technologies.

Responsibilities

• Write and maintain efficient Kotlin-based services transforming video and metadata into Bedrock-compatible ingest payloads.
• Develop update logic for metadata changes, asset state transitions, retries, error handling, and status persistence.
• Operate event-driven integrations using Kafka, Kafka Streams, Avro schemas, and Spring ecosystem in AWS/Kubernetes.
• Create and maintain operational scripts in Python and Shell/Bash to automate recurring tasks.
• Take end-to-end responsibility for running production services on AWS and Kubernetes (EKS, RDS, DynamoDB, VPC, Helm, Terraform).
• Ensure code quality, test coverage, secret handling, secure runtimes, and schema/version management.

Job Summary

Design, build, operate, and continuously improve an export service that translates video and metadata world into the static ingest API of Bedrock’s streaming platform. The role ensures reliable, traceable, and consistent delivery of content updates from source systems into the target platform. Own and evolve the ingest service that maps, validates, persists, and exports video assets, metadata, and related status information. Implement update logics that can deal with changing source data, partner-side constraints, retries, idempotency, status tracking, and data consistency across distributed systems. Collaborate closely with product, content operations, platform, and engineering stakeholders to understand source workflows, Bedrock ingest requirements, operational constraints, and upcoming changes. Contribute actively to shared technical ownership through pair programming, code reviews, and knowledge sharing. Drive automation wherever possible, replacing repetitive operational work such as deployments, backups, restores, data correction tasks, and support routines with reliable scripts, pipelines, and documented procedures.

• Take end-to-end responsibility for running the service in production on AWS and Kubernetes, including EKS, RDS, DynamoDB, VPC, Helm, Terraform, GitLab CI/CD, monitoring, troubleshooting, and incident response.
• Ensure high code quality, meaningful test coverage, secure handling of secrets, least-privilege access, hardened runtime environments, and careful schema/version management in distributed systems.

• Documenting the software development process, including design and deployment procedures, to facilitate knowledge sharing
• Analyzing software integration needs and planning system architecture to meet technical specifications
• Reviewing current practices and technical literature to inform project solutions and applying engineering methodologies
• Working with Quality Assurance to ensure applications meet technical requirements and fit specifications
• Troubleshooting software issues, providing resolutions to enhance application performance and user satisfaction
