Position: Design Lead - Solar (Electrical DC)

Reports to: Section Head - Solar

Design Engineer/Draughts Person (secondary reportees)

Minimum Qualification

B.E./B.Tech. in Electrical or Electrical & Electronics Engineering with 7–10 years of experience in design aspects of Solar PV Power Plants or Power Distribution Projects.

Objective

The Design Lead will review and execute engineering activities including generation estimate, plant layout, DC single line diagram, solar module selection, inverter sizing, SMB, earthing and cable sizing calculations for Solar PV Power Plants. The role will coordinate with BIM modellers and inter-disciplinary teams (civil/structural, instrumentation, MEP) and support engineering activities from pre-bid to commissioning and warranty phases.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver project engineering drawings and documentation on time.
• Align deliverables with the project schedule.
• Review drawings and sizing calculations by design engineers and draughts persons; obtain client approvals.
• Review vendor deliverables and perform technical clarifications.
• Estimate and plan man-hour requirements.
• Submit BOQ to contracts team and provide technical clarifications.
• Coordinate inter-disciplinary checks and provide support to the site execution team.
• Evaluate vendors pre-award, validate technical specifications, and forward validation documents to supply chain management.
• Inspect equipment supplied by vendors after validation.
• Clarify design and client requirements to the site execution team.
• Collect project inputs (plot details, feeder arrangements, GADs) from clients and project engineering manager.
• Coordinate with operations team and obtain design specification approvals.
• Check deliverables such as cable routing layout, cable tray layout, earthing, and lightning protection layout.
• Provide support to Electrical AC, civil/structural teams for vendor drawing reviews.
• Submit man-hour requirements for design & drawing review.

Expertise

Extensive knowledge of equipment layouts and necessary calculations for solar PV power plant design, including generation estimate, plant layout, DC single line diagram, module selection, inverter sizing, SMB, earthing and cable sizing. Familiarity with national and international codes and standards and ability to interpret technical contractual requirements. Understanding of inter-disciplinary design aspects (civil & structural, mechanical, instrumentation).

Internal stakeholders include Head of Engineering, Section Heads, Design Engineers, Draughts Persons, Operations Team, Site Execution Team, and Supply Chain Management. External stakeholders comprise clients, consultants, and vendors.
