Job summary

Sodexo is seeking a Design Engineer in its mechanical fixtures division to design and develop machining, assembly, and welding fixtures. The role involves creating 3D models, detailed drawings, and GD&T analysis, coordinating with shop and vendors to ensure manufacturability and cost targets.

• Diploma / BE / BTech in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 45 years of hands on experience in fixture design & development.
• Excellent command of CREO and SolidWorks for modelling and drafting.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T, engineering drawing interpretation, and tolerance stack-up.
• Good understanding of manufacturing processes and machine shop practices.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, and meet deadlines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Problem-solving attitude with high attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Fixture Design & Development: design and develop machining, assembly, work-holding, welding, and R&D test fixtures.
• CAD Modelling & Drafting: create high-quality 3D part models, assemblies and 2D drawings.
• Manufacturing & Process Knowledge: apply machining, welding, sheet metal, inspection, and QC.
• Project Execution & Documentation: manage multiple projects, prepare calculations and docs.
• Software & Tools: use CREO/SolidWorks; proficient in MS Office and PowerPoint.
• Communication & Collaboration: coordinate with Engineering, R&D, Manufacturing, QA, and Procurement.

Job Description

Position: Design Engineer

Experience: 45 Years

Qualification: Diploma or Degree in Mechanical

Key Responsibilities

1. Fixture Design & Development

• Design and develop various types of fixtures including:
• Machining fixtures
• Assembly fixtures
• Work-holding fixtures
• Welding fixtures
• R&D test fixtures
• Ensure designs meet functional, dimensional, safety, and cost requirements.
• Prepare design concepts, 3D models, and detailed manufacturing drawings.

2. CAD Modelling & Drafting

• Create highquality 3D part models, assemblies, and 2D detailed drawings.
• Perform complex assembly creation with proper constraints.
• Apply GD&T as per design intent and manufacturing requirements.
• Review and interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, and standards.

3. Manufacturing & Process Knowledge

• Apply strong understanding of manufacturing processes:
  • Machining (turning, milling, grinding)
  • Welding and fabrication
  • Sheetmetal processes
  • Inspection and quality control methods
• Work closely with machine shop, fabrication teams, and vendors for fixture development.
• Provide design improvements to enhance manufacturability and reduce cost.

4. Project Execution & Documentation

• Handle multiple design projects simultaneously.
• Prepare technical documentation, calculations, and design justifications.
• Support prototype development, assembly trials, and testing activities.
• Track project timelines and ensure on-time delivery.

5. Software & Tools

• Strong expertise in 3D CAD software:
  • CREO, SolidWorks (mandatory)
• Working knowledge in:
  • MS Office (Excel, Word)
  • Advanced Excel (data handling, reporting)
  • PowerPoint (presentations, design reviews)

6. Communication & Collaboration

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Engineering, R&D, Manufacturing, QA, and Procurement.
• Communicate design concepts, progress updates, and technical details clearly.
• Conduct design review presentations and documentation.
