Overview

Deputy Manager - Intellectual Property Rights

Job Purpose

The position will support the product development and technology development team to ensure creation, maintenance and defense of a strong IP position, protection of know‑how, and risk management by understanding infringements and conducting appropriate searches.

Responsibilities

• Ensure protection and defense of intellectual property including know‑how.
• Harvest and evaluate invention disclosures, initiate novelty searches and support analysis of data.
• Ensure registration, enforcement, maintenance, and defense of trademarks.
• Draft patent application and prosecute them.
• Defend intellectual property rights from third parties.
• Draft IP agreements.
• Review patents and trademarks.
• Identify IP infringements and enforce patents and trademarks.
• Conduct patent landscaping and freedom‑to‑operate investigations regarding company product portfolio.
• Perform IP risk management to enable product launches—patentability assessment, patent drafting, filing, and online PCT filing.
• Define and implement countermeasures versus competitor IP and intelligence.
• Conduct FTO analysis, opposition/invalidity actions, joint development, IP due diligence, etc.
• Evaluate IP concerns at early product selection stages, key blocking patents, market exclusivity studies (SPC, NCE).
• Support all search requests, including patent information.
• Draft, file, and prosecute patents in different jurisdictions worldwide.
• IP counseling to R&D teams: prior art searches, infringement, white space and patentability analysis.
• Use databases to retrieve external information relevant to the Company.
• Keep stakeholders updated on major IP legal developments.
• Perform IP awareness training for R&D and technology team.
• Understand US, EP, PCT, GCC, CN, IN patent laws and procedures.
• Conduct literature searches using various databases and data mining tools.

Educational Qualifications

• Minimum: M.Sc/B.Tech in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, or Polymer Technology.
• Preferred: PG Diploma in Intellectual Property Protection and Patents; Candidate may be a Patent Agent, Patent and Trademark Agent, or hold a degree in law.

Technical Skills

• Patent searching: infringement searches, FTO searches, search for patentability and prior art.

Experience
