Job summary

Aon plc is seeking a Database Lead in Bangalore (Whitefield) with hybrid work style and full-time engagement. The role requires 8+ years in database engineering, with 2+ years in a lead capacity, and expertise across major RDBMS and NoSQL. A cloud certification is preferred.

The candidate will own end-to-end database architecture, performance tuning, DR/backup, security, and global data strategies, guiding a skilled team and partnering with infra and apps teams to meet SLAs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 8+ years of database administration/engineering experience, with 2+ years in a lead role.
• Deep expertise in at least one major RDBMS (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL) plus exposure to NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra).
• Cloud database certification (AWS/Azure/GCP database specialty) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead database architecture, capacity planning, and technology selection (RDBMS/NoSQL).
• Own database performance tuning, high availability, disaster recovery, and backup/recovery strategy.
• Establish database security, access control, and compliance standards (encryption, auditing, data masking).
• Lead and mentor a team of database engineers/administrators.
• Oversee database migrations, upgrades, and patching cycles with minimal downtime.
• Partner with application and infrastructure teams on data model reviews and query optimization.
• Define and monitor SLAs/SLOs for database availability and performance.
• Evaluate emerging database technologies (cloud-managed databases, NewSQL) for adoption.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

Required Qualifications & Experience

Technical Skills

• RDBMS: Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL administration and tuning
• NoSQL: MongoDB, Cassandra, DynamoDB, or similar
• High availability/DR: clustering, replication, log shipping, backup/restore tooling
• Cloud-managed database services (RDS, Cloud SQL, Azure SQL/Cosmos DB)
• Database security: encryption at rest/in transit, auditing, data masking
• Scripting/automation: SQL, PL/SQL/T-SQL, Python or shell scripting
