Job summary

Maaze Underwriting Solutions is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to manage PostgreSQL and Azure-based databases. The role involves owning architecture, performance, HA/DR, and data integration across on-premises and Azure cloud platforms.

You will design, implement, and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines, ensure security best practices, and collaborate with engineering, DevOps, and analytics teams to deliver reliable data platforms.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience as a Database Administrator or similar data infra role.
• Strong hands-on PostgreSQL administration, tuning, troubleshooting.
• Proven experience with Azure-supported databases (Azure SQL MSSQL & Cosmos DB).
• Solid experience designing and supporting ETL/ELT processes and pipelines.
• Backup/restore, HA/DR strategies, and replication knowledge.
• SQL proficiency and scripting for automation (Python/PowerShell/Bash).
• Security, encryption, access control, and data governance familiarity.

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, optimize, and secure our database environments across on-premises and Azure cloud platforms. The ideal candidate will bring deep hands-on expertise in PostgreSQL and Azure-supported databases such as Azure SQL (MSSQL) and Azure Cosmos DB, along with strong experience building and maintaining ETL pipelines.

The role requires a professional who can own database architecture, performance, high availability, and data integration end-to-end, while partnering closely with application, data engineering, and DevOps teams.

Key Responsibilities

Database Administration & Operations

• Administer, monitor, and tune PostgreSQL databases across production, staging, and development environments


• Manage and support Azure-hosted databases, including Azure SQL Database / Managed Instance (MSSQL) and Azure Cosmos DB


• Own backup, restore, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies


• Configure and maintain high availability (HA) and replication (streaming replication, failover clustering, geo-replication)


• Perform capacity planning, storage management, and database health monitoring

Performance & Security

• Tune queries, indexes, and execution plans for optimal performance across PostgreSQL and Azure SQL


• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, deadlocks, and long-running transactions


• Implement database security best practices: role-based access control, encryption at rest/in transit, and auditing


• Ensure compliance with data governance, retention, and regulatory requirements

ETL & Data Integration

• Design, build, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines for data ingestion, transformation, and movement across systems


• Integrate data across PostgreSQL, Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, and other data stores


• Automate data validation, reconciliation, and error-handling within ETL workflows


• Optimize ETL jobs for scalability, reliability, and minimal downtime

Cloud & Infrastructure

• Manage database provisioning, scaling, and cost optimization within Microsoft Azure


• Support migration of on-premises databases to Azure cloud platforms


• Work with Infrastructure-as-Code and automation tools to standardize database deployments


• Set up monitoring, alerting, and logging using Azure Monitor and related tools

Collaboration & Leadership

• Partner with application developers, data engineers, and DevOps teams to support end-to-end delivery


• Participate in architecture reviews and provide guidance on database design decisions


• Mentor junior DBAs and promote database engineering best practices


• Maintain documentation for database standards, runbooks, and operational procedures

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience as a Database Administrator or in a similar data infrastructure role


• Strong hands-on expertise in PostgreSQL administration, tuning, and troubleshooting


• Proven experience with Azure-supported databases, including MSSQL (Azure SQL) and Cosmos DB


• Solid experience designing and supporting ETL/ELT processes and data pipelines


• Strong understanding of database backup/recovery, HA/DR strategies, and replication


• Experience with performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies


• Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash) for automation


• Working knowledge of database security, encryption, and access control best practices

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with other Azure data services (Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Event Hubs)


• Familiarity with additional database platforms (MySQL, Oracle, MongoDB)


• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, ARM/Bicep)


• Exposure to containerized database deployments (Docker, Kubernetes)


• Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, PostgreSQL certification)
