Job summary

Vodafone VOIS seeks a Data Scientist based in Pune to design and develop analytical models and insight packs. You will transform raw data into actionable intelligence using predictive and descriptive techniques across diverse environments, collaborating with business and commercial teams to drive innovation.

You will work with complex datasets, apply ML methods to business problems, and contribute to analytics lifecycle improvements in an international, agile setting.

Qualifications

• Experience in descriptive, predictive, and optimization modelling.
• Comfort with large, high-volume data (Hadoop or Spark).
• Proficient in SQL and Teradata/Oracle/MySQL.
• Experience applying machine learning to business problems.
• Proficient with Python, R, SAS, MATLAB or SPSS.

About this Role

We are seeking a Data Scientist to design and develop analytical models and insight packs that support local markets, partner markets, and corporate accounts. The role focuses on transforming raw data into actionable intelligence through predictive and descriptive statistical techniques across diverse data environments. Based in Pune, the individual will work collaboratively with business and commercial teams to drive informed decision-making and innovation.

What you’ll do

• Build, test, and deliver analytical models leveraging new and existing datasets to support defined use cases
• Perform data preparation, cleansing, and optimisation using SQL and NoSQL technologies
• Develop descriptive and predictive models tailored to specific customer segments, products, and services
• Support business stakeholders by contributing to decision-making processes through data-driven insights
• Collaborate with commercial teams to present recommendations based on analytical outcomes
• Contribute to product management activities by identifying and defining customer-facing analytics use cases
• Support the definition and improvement of analytics lifecycle processes for efficient and cost-effective delivery
• Participate in business analysis activities and document specifications for information requests

Who you are

• Experienced in advanced analytics techniques such as descriptive, predictive, and optimisation modelling
• Comfortable working with complex, high-volume, and high-dimensional datasets (preferably using Hadoop or Spark)
• Proficient in SQL and database technologies such as Teradata, Oracle, or MySQL
• Skilled in applying machine learning techniques to practical business problems
• Experienced in statistical tools such as Python, R, SAS, MATLAB, or SPSS
• Educated in Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent field, with relevant experience
• Confident working in international, distributed, and agile team environments
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and system analysis capabilities
• Effective communicator, able to translate complex findings into clear and simple language
• Collaborative, adaptable, and proactive with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation
