Position Title: SAP Data Migration Load Developer
Location: Onsite / Remote / Hybrid based on project requirements
Employment Type: Contract / Full-Time
Travel: This position may require travel up to 80% based on project phase, deployment needs, design workshops, testing, cutover, and hypercare. Preferred location: East Coast or Midwest.
Role Overview
This role is aligned to a large global SAP S/4HANA transformation program delivered using SAP Activate, a Greenfield+ implementation approach, SAP S/4HANA RISE PCE, Fit-to-Standard principles, and a Clean Core delivery model. The role is expected to support formal design, build, test, deploy, cutover, hypercare, and knowledge transfer activities across a multi-wave enterprise implementation. The position requires strong documentation discipline, close collaboration with functional and technical workstreams, and the ability to operate within structured governance, change control, validation, and deliverable approval processes.
The SAP Data Migration Load Developer will be responsible for designing, building, executing, troubleshooting, reconciling, and supporting data load activities for a global SAP S/4HANA transformation program. The role will focus on loading master data and open transactional data into SAP S/4HANA and other in-scope SAP applications using SAP S/4HANA Migration Cockpit and related migration tools. The candidate will work closely with the data migration lead, functional teams, legacy data extraction teams, business data owners, technical developers, testing teams, and cutover teams to support mock loads, validation, defect resolution, production cutover, and hypercare stabilization. The role requires strong understanding of SAP data objects, load templates, staging, transformation logic, reconciliation, and load error resolution in a structured implementation environment.
Day to Day Job Duties
- Develop and maintain data load templates, staging structures, field mapping documents, transformation rules, and load procedures for SAP S/4HANA migration objects.
- Use SAP S/4HANA Migration Cockpit, including Fiori-based migration apps and supported migration approaches such as file/staging table-based loading and direct transfer where applicable.
- Use Migration Object Modeler or equivalent supported tooling where applicable in the project landscape to adjust migration objects, mappings, rules, and load behavior, while recognizing that LTMC/LTMOM experience is legacy and should be applied only where supported.
- Support migration objects for master data and open transactional data, including business partners, customers, vendors, materials, BOMs, routings, work centers, inventory balances, GL balances, open AR/AP, assets, cost centers, profit centers, source lists, pricing, open purchase orders, open sales orders, quality masters, employees, organizational data, and global hierarchies.
- Build and test transformation logic, value mappings, data conversion rules, validation checks, and load pipelines based on approved data definition templates and business mapping decisions.
- Execute mock data loads across project cycles, including sample loads, SIT1 mock load, SIT2 mock load, UAT/mock 3 load, mock cutover/dress rehearsal, and final production cutover load.
- Analyze load errors, identify root causes, provide detailed error descriptions, recommend data corrections, and support re-load activities after business or source-data corrections are completed.
- Prepare reconciliation reports, load statistics, variance reports, exception logs, defect logs, and data validation support materials for business review and sign-off.
- Coordinate with functional teams and data owners to validate loaded data across finance, procurement, sales, manufacturing, supply chain, quality, HR, planning, and cross-functional master data domains.
- Support cutover planning, freeze-window execution, production load scheduling, post-load validation, go/no-go readiness, and hypercare issue resolution.
- Prepare data migration technical documentation, load runbooks, KT materials, known issue logs, and handover documents for support/COE teams.
Basic Qualifications
- SAP Data Migration Experience: 5-9 years of SAP data migration or data load development experience, including at least 3-5 years supporting SAP S/4HANA data migration activities.
- Implementation Experience: Experience in at least one full-cycle SAP S/4HANA implementation or transformation program with mock loads, cutover loads, reconciliation, and hypercare support.
- Migration Cockpit: Hands-on experience with SAP S/4HANA Migration Cockpit using Fiori-based migration apps and supported migration approaches such as file/staging table-based migration and direct transfer where applicable.
- Legacy Tool Awareness: Experience with LTMC and LTMOM is helpful for legacy S/4HANA landscapes, with the ability to adapt to current Migration Cockpit approaches and project-specific supported tooling.
- Migration Objects: Strong knowledge of SAP master data and open transactional data objects across finance, procurement, sales, manufacturing, supply chain, quality, HR, and cross-functional domains.
- Mapping and Transformation: Experience with field mapping, value mapping, data transformation rules, derivations, mandatory field checks, dependency sequencing, and data readiness criteria.
- Load Execution: Experience executing mock loads, resolving load failures, reprocessing failed records, validating load logs, and supporting production cutover loads.
- Reconciliation: Experience preparing record count reconciliations, financial balance checks, open item reconciliation, inventory reconciliation, variance reporting, and load success metrics.
- Defect Management: Ability to document data load defects, coordinate with data owners and functional teams, and support error correction cycles through SIT, UAT, cutover, and hypercare.
- Documentation: Ability to prepare data load runbooks, migration object notes, technical mapping documents, validation reports, reconciliation packs, and KT material.
Common Project Delivery Expectations
- Work effectively with functional consultants, solution architects, PMO, testing teams, integration teams, security teams, data teams, business SMEs, offshore delivery teams, and support/COE stakeholders.
- Follow SAP best practices, Fit-to-Standard guidance, Clean Core principles, and approved change control procedures before introducing custom development or extensions.
- Create clear, audit-ready documentation including design documents, technical specifications, unit test evidence, defect resolution notes, deployment notes, runbooks, and knowledge transfer materials.
- Support SIT1, SIT2, UAT, regression testing, security testing, performance testing, cutover rehearsals, production cutover, hypercare stabilization, and transition to long-term support.
- Use SAP Cloud ALM and related project tools for test execution support, defect tracking, issue updates, documentation references, and delivery traceability where applicable.
- Support GxP/CSV-aware delivery expectations where applicable, including traceability, validation support, controlled testing, and documentation aligned to formal approval processes.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Syniti, SAP Data Services/BODS, SAP Data Intelligence, or other ETL/data migration tools is a plus.
- Experience in regulated manufacturing, life sciences, medical device, pharmaceutical, or GxP/CSV-controlled environments.
- Exposure to SAP Cloud ALM, Tricentis, validation reports, data migration plans, requirements traceability, and audit-ready data documentation.
- Experience loading data into or supporting migrations for SAP Ariba, SuccessFactors, SAC Planning, SimpleMDG, IBP, OpenText, BlackLine, or other adjacent SAP/non‑SAP applications.
- Strong Excel, SQL, data profiling, data quality, and reconciliation skills.
Degree
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business Systems, or a related field. Equivalent hands‑on SAP project experience may be considered.
Professional Competencies
- Strong ownership mindset and ability to drive assigned deliverables from design through hypercare.
- Ability to work in a global delivery model across onsite, offshore, and cross‑functional teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical topics to functional and business stakeholders.
- Ability to work within formal governance, documentation, validation, change control, and deliverable acceptance processes.
- Ability to prepare clear KT materials and support transition to application support or SAP Center of Excellence teams.
