Job summary

Optum India is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to design and implement scalable data pipelines using PySpark on Databricks within an Azure cloud environment.

You will collaborate with product owners, SMEs, and QA to ensure robust data solutions and smooth releases. The role requires strong problem-solving, communication, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience as Data Engineer with solid PySpark and Databricks expertise.
• Strong Azure Cloud knowledge; design, develop and optimize scalable data pipelines.
• Experience with AI/ML concepts, especially integrating AI in data workflows.
• Good knowledge of Agile practices and ability to work with cross-functional teams.
• Demonstrated communication and presentation skills; adaptable to evening shifts as needed.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed technical design for data solutions and discuss with PO/business.
• Walk through the design with stakeholders and support teams.
• Plan tests, set up test data, and execute test plans for project requirements.
• Ensure timely delivery of tasks and support QA/UAT/release activities.
• Contribute to design reviews, test case reviews, and production readiness.

Primary Responsibilities

• Prepare detail design for the Solution by discussing with PO and business. Consult with Business, Subject Master Expert, users to evaluate business requirements, evaluate existing or proposed systems, and prepare detailed technical design document from which programs will be written
• Walk-thru the technical design document with Business/SME/QA group and support team
• Prepare test planning & setup test data. Execute test planning based on project requirements
• Ensuring timely deliveries for all assigned tasks
• Participation in Design reviews, Test Case reviews, and Production Support readiness reviews for new releases
• Support QA, UAT and Release phases of the project via defect analysis, change maintenance, etc.
• Adhere to all quality requirements
• Be able to work independently

Required Qualifications

• B.E/MCA/B.Tech / MTECH /MS Graduation (16+ years of formal education, Correspondence courses are not relevant)
• 7+ years of experience as Data Engineer: Solid knowledge on PySpark, Databricks, Solid Azure Cloud knowledge. Design, develop, and optimize scalable data pipelines using PySpark on Databricks. Build, schedule, monitor, and troubleshoot Databricks jobs and workflows. Experience with AI/ML concepts, especially agent creation (LLM-based agents, decision logic, orchestration), ability to integrate AI solutions into data pipelines or platforms
• Good knowledge of Agile practices
• Good attitude and self-motivated
• Demonstrated ability to identify system changes and verify that technical system specifications meet the business requirements
• Demonstrated solid problem solving, analytical kills
• Proven excellent communication and presentation skills
• Adaptable to work in evening shift (11:30 am - 8.30 pm)
