Job summary

Citigroup Inc. is seeking an Applications Development Intermediate Programmer Analyst to contribute to design, development, and optimization of data-intensive applications.

The role emphasizes Python/Scala coding, big data processing, and collaboration with global technology teams to deliver scalable solutions. The position requires hands-on experience with Spark, Hive, and SQL, along with Unix/Linux proficiency and familiarity with CI/CD tools.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience with Python/Spark in Big Data environments.
• Experience with Big Data technologies such as HDFS, MapReduce, YARN, Spark and Hive.
• Strong SQL knowledge and foundational database concepts.
• Experience with UNIX/Linux and shell scripting.
• Familiarity with data formats Avro, Parquet, CSV, JSON.
• Understanding SDLC, unit testing and related practices.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
• Exposure to GIT, JIRA and CI/CD tools.

Responsibilities

• Translate application storyboards and use cases into functional applications.
• Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable Python/Scala code.
• Ensure optimal performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications.
• Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise effective fixes.
• Develop high-performance, low-latency components for Spark clusters.
• Interpret requirements into design approaches on the Big Data platform.
• Collaborate with Global Teams across locations.
• Propose best practices and coding standards.
• Perform testing of software prototypes and hand off to operations.
• Process data using Hive, Impala and HBASE.

The Applications Development Intermediate Programmer Analyst is an intermediate level position responsible for participation in the establishment and implementation of new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology team. The overall objective of this role is to contribute to applications systems analysis and programming activities.

• Strong experience with one or more programming languages (Python/Spark) with 4+ years of experience.
• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills. Application performance tuning, troubleshooting experience and the implementation of these skills in Big Data domain.
• Comfortable working with large data volumes and be able to demonstrate a firm understanding of logical data structures and analysis techniques.
• Experience in Big data technologies like HDFS, Map Reduce, YARN, Apache Spark, Hive.
• Familiarity with data formats like Avro, Parquet, CSV, JSON.
• Strong systems analysis, design and architecture fundamentals, Unit Testing and other SDLC activities.
• Understanding fundamental design principles behind a scalable application.
• Experience in working with UNIX/LINUX and shell scripting.
• Good knowledge of database principles, practices with SQL.
• Application performance tuning, troubleshooting experience and the implementation of these skills in Big Data domain. Good to Have:
• Agile/Scrum methodology experience is required.
• Experience in SCMs like GIT and tools like JIRA.
• Experience in No SQL databases.
• Familiarity with build tools such as Maven and continuous integration like Jenkins/Team City.
• Familiarity with cloud and container technologies.
• Experience real time data processing - Kafka.

• Be able to propose best practices and standards.
• Perform the testing of software prototypes and transfer to the operational team.
• Processing of data using Hive, Impala & HBASE.
• Performing analysis of large data sets and derive insights.
