Job summary

Athena Tech is seeking an entry-level Data Engineer to help build data foundations powering business decisions. You will work hands-on with Python ingestion pipelines, Airflow orchestration, and Snowflake/Databricks to move data securely from source to decision-ready output.

This is an entry-level role with mentorship from senior engineers. You will learn our tools, conventions, and pipeline correctness while growing quickly in a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• 0–3 years of professional software or data engineering experience.
• Self-learner with strong ability to gather, evaluate, and analyze requirements.
• Solid foundation in Python and deep understanding of SQL & ETL/ELT for complex data transformations.
• Comfort reading/writing unit tests and working within established codebases and conventions.
• Familiarity with Airflow (Managed Workflows for Apache Airflow) or eagerness to learn.
• Basic understanding of data pipeline concepts — ingestion, idempotency, scheduling, data quality.
• Exposure to Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, dbt, Tableau, MongoDB, PostgreSQL.
• Familiarity with Git-based version control and PR-based code review workflows.
• Strong communicator — asks clarifying questions, writes clear PR descriptions, and escalates blockers with context.
• Growth mindset — takes feedback well, improves processes, and champions best practices.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain Python-based data ingestion pipelines and ETL/ELT processes.
• Orchestrate data workflows using Airflow to ensure reliable data delivery.
• Collaborate with senior engineers to learn conventions and contribute to code reviews.
• Write and maintain unit tests; improve data quality and pipeline correctness.
• Operate within Snowflake, Databricks, and AWS environments; expand tooling as needed.
