Job summary

Amazon Hyderabad data centers seek an experienced Data Center Engineer to oversee operation of critical infrastructure, including power and cooling systems, and to drive uptime and reliability across large-scale facilities.

The role requires hands-on expertise, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and management of contractors while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance in a fast-paced environment. This is an on-site, full-time opportunity with growth in facilities engineering.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of data center engineering or operations experience.
  • 5+ years of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel experience.
  • Experience in vendor management.
  • 5+ years of electrical and mechanical facilities maintenance experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serving as technical subject matter expert for hands-on troubleshooting of critical infrastructure including generators, switchgear, UPS systems, PDUs, chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, and building automation systems.
  • Managing contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors to ensure compliance with established practices, procedures, and local legislation.
  • Conducting root cause analysis for operational issues and implementing corrective actions.
  • Establishing performance benchmarks and preparing comprehensive reports on facility infrastructure operations.
  • Collaborating with DCO managers, business leaders, and partners to coordinate projects, manage capacity, and optimize safety, performance, reliability, and sustainability.
  • Supporting rack installation with proper power and cooling provisioning.
  • Implementing preventative and corrective maintenance programs for critical infrastructure.
  • Developing metrics and dashboards for facility performance monitoring.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations.
  • Leading continuous improvement initiatives to achieve operational excellence and uptime targets.

Key job responsibilities


  • Serving as technical subject matter expert for hands‑on troubleshooting of critical infrastructure including generators, switchgear, UPS systems, PDUs, chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, and building automation systems

A day in the life


  • Troubleshoot facility and rack‑level events within SLAs, serving as technical escalation point for complex electrical and mechanical issues.

  • Execute rack installations, decommissioning, and facility modifications with proper power and cooling provisioning.

  • Monitor critical infrastructure through building automation systems, providing real‑time operational readings and KPIs to maintain 99.999% uptime targets.

  • Manage on‑site contractors ensuring compliance with safety practices.

  • Collaborate with DCO managers and field engineers on capacity planning and incident response.

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical and mechanical systems.

  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.

  • Work schedule varies—shifts up to 12 hours with rotating schedules and on‑call responsibilities.

Basic Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications


  • Electrical or mechanical journeyman license

  • Knowledge of electrical systems in critical Data Center operations that include but are not limited to utility substation feeds, transformers, switchgear, VFI Class UPS, DRUPS, PDUs, ATS, STS, SLA/VRLA batteries and associated systems, diesel/gas turbine generators and related fuel systems, Surge Suppression, Active Harmonic Filtering, battery monitoring systems, branch circuit monitoring systems or SCADA systems

  • Knowledge of mechanical systems in critical Data Center operations including but not limited to CRAC/CRAHs/AHUs, chillers, cooling towers, storage tanks, chemical systems, heat exchangers, piping systems, pumps, valves, duct systems, fans, or dampers
