Job summary

Desun Hospital in Kolkata is seeking a dedicated CSSD technician to manage the central sterile services department, ensuring decontamination, sterilization, and safe packaging of instruments.

You will identify instruments, assemble trays, maintain infection control, document inventory, and collaborate with healthcare professionals to optimize workflows and compliance.

This role requires strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols in a fast-paced medical environment.

Responsibilities

• Decontamination and cleaning of used medical tools using manual and automated methods, ensuring disinfection and proper packaging.
• Operate sterilization equipment (autoclaves): set temperatures, pressures, durations, and perform biological tests.
• Identify instruments, inspect for damage, and assemble accurate procedural trays.
• Sterile packaging: wrap, seal, and label instrument kits to keep them germ‑free.
• Infection control and safety: follow PPE protocols and hazardous-material procedures.
• Document inventory: track stock levels, issuance, and disposal of supplies.
• Liaison with healthcare professionals to improve CSSD processes.
• Problem solving: develop solutions to improve workflow and reduce errors.
• Audit: participate in quality control, audits and regulatory inspections.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Decontamination & Cleaning: Washing, rinsing, and removing blood, tissue, and debris from used medical tools through manual and automated methods. Ensure proper cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, and packaging of medical devices and equipment according to established protocols


• Sterilization Operation: Safely running equipment like autoclaves, setting correct temperatures, pressures, and durations, and running biological tests.


• Instrument Identification: Recognizing hundreds of complex surgical instruments, inspecting them for damage, and assembling them into accurate procedural trays.


• Sterile Packaging: Wrapping, sealing, and labelling instrument kits securely to keep them germ-free until use.


• Infection Control & Safety: Following strict protocols for hazardous material handling and wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE).


• Documention: Maintain accurate records of inventory management, including tracking stock levels, issuance, and disposal of supplies.


• Liasioning: Collaborate with healthcare professionals to identify areas for improvement in the CSSD department's processes and procedures.


• Problem Solving: Develop and implement effective solutions to optimize workflow efficiency and reduce errors.


• Audit: Participate in quality control activities such as audits and inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
