Job summary

Hitachi ABB Power Grids in Chennai is seeking a Lead Engineer responsible for the complete execution of the project design phase, base and detailed design, and manufacturing documents. You will manage 2–3 projects in parallel, estimate engineering hours, and assign tasks to junior engineers while ensuring quality before approvals.

You will participate in meetings with the OU team and customers to secure smooth approvals, review deliverables, and ensure adherence to ISO standards.

Qualifications

• Must review and ensure quality of subordinates' work before releasing documents for approval.
• Ability to manage 2–3 projects in parallel and estimate engineering hours.
• Prepare base design documents, schematics, and manufacturing documents.
• Contribute in meetings with OU team and end customers to secure approvals.

Responsibilities

• Prepare base design documents: protection block diagram, interlocks, system overview, BOM, cable lists, heat dissipation.
• Prepare protection schematics: feeder, transformer, busbar, bus coupler, capacitor bank, reactor.
• Prepare control schematics with BCUs and mimics for various bus systems.
• Create design intent documents aligning with scope, guidelines, and customer specs.
• Develop cubicle schematics for metering, general control, SCADA.
• Produce manufacturing documents for cubicle and box production.
• Create interface drawings referencing HV equipment, marshalling boxes, CT/VT, and distribution boards.
• Prepare IED configurations for protection applications (optional).
• Review documents against checklists and ISO standards; manage project budget and delegation.

Job description

As a Lead Engineer, you are responsible for the complete execution of the project design phase base design, detailed design and manufacturing documents. You should be capable of managing 2 to 3 projects in parallel, estimating engineering hours and assigning tasks to junior engineers. You are expected to participate in meetings with the OU team and end customers to ensure smooth approval process. Additionally, you must review and ensure the quality of your subordinates work before releasing any documents for approval. You should also be able to perform the following activities:

• Preparation of Base Design documents like Protection block diagram, Interlocks Diagram, System overview diagram, Bill of material Document, Pre cable list, Heat dissipation calculations.
• Preparation of Protection schematics for Feeder, Transformer, Busbar, Bus Section, Bus coupler, capacitor bank, Reactor.
• Preparation of Control Schematics with BCUs and Mimics for various bus systems.
• Preparation of design intent document analyzing scope of work, technical guidelines and Customer specifications and applying in schematics
• Preparation of Cubicle Schematics for Metering, General control, SCADA.
• Preparation of manufacturing documents (Assembly, Layouts, Labels, Apparatus) for Cubicle and Boxes production.
• Preparation of Interface drawing by referring HV equipment's, Marshalling boxes, CT, VT and other station devices AC and DC Distribution boards e.t.c
• Preparation of IED configurations for various protection applications like Distance, Differential, Overcurrent, auto reclose, synchro check etc(optional)
• Review and validation of above-mentioned documents against checklist and ISO standards
• Preparation of Project budget for this scope of work and delegation plan if working in team for larger scope of work.
• Preparation of various types of reports during project execution according to customer expectations and easy operation.
• Should take responsibility and ownership for his work and have complete control over the project scope assigned to him.

Able to measure the project problem and give suitable solutions with identifying root causes and share the learnings with team members and control plan preparation to mitigate them
