Job summary

Hitachi Energy is seeking an experienced Control design Engineer for the Indian operation center in Chennai. You will work on planning control and protection for power electronic converters, collaborate across stakeholders, and verify software on real-time hardware while traveling to sites as needed.

The role requires 5–10 years in power electronics and grid automation, with MATLAB/Simulink and PSCAD experience. Strong English communication and willingness to travel are essential.

Qualifications

• Education: Masters or Bachelor in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience: 5–10 years in Power Electronics, control systems, real‑time software.
• Certifications in MATLAB, PSCAD, PSSE are a plus.
• Knowledge of Grid and Substation automation is required.

Responsibilities

• Plan control and protection systems for power electronic converter projects.

The opportunity:

We the Power Conversion (PC) Solutions team at Indian Operation Center, Hitachi Energy Technology Services Pvt Ltd, Chennai help our clients with our state-of-the-art power converter solutions in a varied range of applications. With our competence in Power Conversion technology, we have a leading position in the development of solutions for Utility STATCOM's, Rail Power Supply Converters as well as static frequency converters for industrial applications. We have also built the worlds largest drive for a hydro pump station. To strengthen this motivated team, we are looking for an experienced and dedicated Control design Engineer with high interest in power electronics and control technology. As the system being continuously evolving, becoming more complex and customized, great deal of test & verification are required. Thus, the job description would be as given below:

How youll make an impact

• You will be responsible for planning of control and protection systems for power electronic converter projects.
• You will focus on continuously improving GPQS Overall Control engineering tasks.
• You will be responsible for Closed loop controls application development and design for control/Protection software using PEC & MACH control platform and MATLAB Simulink.
• Programming skills & Proficiency in the use of simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink and PSCAD would be an advantage.
• Python programming would be an added advantage.
• You will be responsible for design & development of secured network overall architecture for PC projects.
• Simulations of converter behavior during grid disturbance.
• Verification of your software on the real-time simulator as well as in the project hardware.
• Besides bringing the software into service, you will operate specialist support for the service group as well as for the customer
• Technical co-ordination with sub suppliers and multiple stakeholders in different locations & discussion with other departments / stakeholders to prepare the Division of works.
• You will be evaluating and strengthening the security of any connections
• Involved in FAT / SAT activities with along with sub suppliers.
• Technical support at site during commissioning phase of the project
• Should be willing to travel to sites in India and Abroad at short notice for support work.

Your background:

• Education Qualification: Masters/bachelors degree in electrical engineering
• Industry experience with power converters, control systems design and real-time control software
• You should have minimum 5 to 10 years of working experience from the Power Electronics, Control System, substation automation projects in India / other country locations.
• Certifications in MATLAB, PSCAD, PSSE are an added advantage.
• Good knowledge in Grid and substation automation, Power grid Automation
