Job description

Responsibilities
  • Deliver geospatial ecology services including GIS analysis, spatial data management, spatial modelling, and digital visualisation to support ecology and environmental approvals projects.
  • Contribute to large-scale national projects across mining, energy, transport, and water sectors, ensuring consistent and high-quality spatial outputs.
  • Apply established spatial analysis techniques while supporting the development of best practices in environmental assessment and planning workflows.
  • Collaborate closely with ecology and environmental approvals teams to interpret project requirements and design effective spatial solutions.
  • Prepare, manage, and maintain spatial datasets with a strong focus on accuracy, quality assurance, and compliance with organisational standards.
  • Support project deliverables such as mapping, spatial analysis outputs, and reporting, ensuring spatial information is communicated clearly and effectively.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of geospatial tools, workflows, and technical processes to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Work collaboratively with national teams and the broader organisational network to enable integrated and consistent project delivery.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geospatial Science, Environmental Science, Ecology, Geography, GIS, or a related field.
  • Experience (or early-career exposure) in GIS, spatial analysis, spatial data management, and/or environmental modelling.
  • Working knowledge of geospatial tools such as ArcGIS and QGIS, with a willingness to develop advanced technical capabilities.
  • Membership or eligibility for professional bodies such as SSI, ESA, or EIANZ (desirable).
Experience, Skills & Organisational Knowledge
  • 5–8 years of experience in geospatial, environmental, or related disciplines (flexible based on role level).
  • Experience working in consulting or project-based environments supporting multidisciplinary teams (preferred).
  • Hands-on experience in GIS analysis, mapping, and spatial data management within technical project delivery.
  • Growing ability to communicate spatial information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including clients.
  • Strong proficiency in tools such as ArcGIS and QGIS, with exposure to Python, R, or digital visualisation tools (advantageous).
  • Experience supporting ecology and environmental approvals projects, ideally within sectors like mining, energy, transport, or water.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outputs within deadlines and budget constraints.
  • Exposure to Australian or Commonwealth environmental project frameworks is beneficial.
