Job description

WSP is seeking an Assistant Project Planner to join our Environmental Project Management Team to increase the breadth and capacity for our client base. The successful candidate will plan, track, analyse and report performance on projects of varying contract type, size, complexity and level of risk, primarily within the environmental sector, e.g. environmental impact assessments, compliance and design.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the planning, scheduling, and controlling strategy for assigned projects as guided by the PM.
  • Interfacing directly with international (predominantly UK based) colleagues and able to translate their requirements into an effective and accurate programme.
  • Deliver progress reports (internally and externally) which effectively communicate progress to date, change encountered, risks to the projects and issues that have arisen.
  • Ensuring consistency of programmes across their portfolio of work and the Environmental PM Team in general.
  • Give appropriate planning advice and direction to project staff, subconsultants, contractors and clients.
  • Lead a performance culture, incorporating the WSP values, which develops individuals’ capability through an active performance management process, so that not only delivery for the company is enhanced but also the skills, capability and personal satisfaction of an individual is maximised.
Technical Skills
  • Demonstrable capability in Project Scheduling, and proven skills in the use of Primavera P6 / Microsoft / other planning products (e.g. Primavera P6, Primavera Risk Analysis, Microsoft Project).
  • Advanced knowledge of the philosophies, principals, practices & techniques of planning.
  • Understands and has utilised Critical Path Analysis, Earned Value Techniques, and basic project management skills.
  • Significant relevant experience (7 years minimum) in project planning and controlling.
  • Advance level expertise in using MS Excel/ Word for developing tools, Power Bi dashboards and reports for internal and external stakeholder communications.
  • Understanding of Project Management principles with a sound commercial awareness.
People Skills
  • Team leadership & line management capability with the ability to review the work completed by Junior planners/controllers.
  • Experienced in working with UK personnel, with a good grasp of English (both written and spoken).
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Possesses the ability to work to tight deadlines and in changing environments.
  • Able to work across a wide portfolio of projects and can manage their time effectively to meet individual project deadlines.
Preferred Skills
  • Awareness of Primavera Risk Analysis tool and Quantitative Schedule/Cost Risk Analysis (QSRA/QCRA).
  • Hands on experience on using advance excel, Power Query, and PowerBI tools for developing tools, dashboards and reports for internal and external stakeholder communications.
  • Experience working on UK environmental projects (e.g. environmental impact assessments and/or renewable energy projects)
  • Exposure to NEC contracts & its relevant clauses.
Qualifications
  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent project or construction management qualification.
  • Preferable to have PMQ or PFQ certification.
