Qualifications

Black & Veatch is seeking an experienced professional to join our Infrastructure Advisory organization as a Consultant – Reliability Engineer with expertise in Asset Management and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) solutions within the power (CCGT) and oil & gas sectors. This role focuses on enhancing asset performance, reliability, and lifecycle optimization through structured reliability engineering practices, data-driven maintenance strategies, and advanced monitoring solutions. You will contribute to delivering solutions aligned with condition assessment, maintenance optimization, monitoring & diagnostics, and asset lifecycle management programs to improve operational performance and decision-making for our clients.

The Delivery Team is a diverse group of professionals with strong domain expertise in energy infrastructure, asset management, and digital solutions. Teams collaborate across consulting and digital practices to deliver innovative, data-driven solutions supporting reliability improvement, operational excellence, and asset optimization. You will work in a collaborative environment focused on solving complex challenges across power generation, oil & gas, and industrial assets.

Key Responsibilities

The Reliability Engineer supports clients in improving asset reliability, availability, and maintainability using structured engineering and analytical approaches across the asset lifecycle.

  • Reliability & Asset Performance Engineering
  • Perform reliability assessments including failure modes, root cause analysis (RCA), and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM)
  • Analyze asset performance data to identify recurring failures, degradation trends, and improvement opportunities
  • Support development of asset health indices and performance KPIs
  • Maintenance Strategy & Optimization
  • Develop and optimize maintenance strategies, including preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance approaches
  • Support lifecycle maintenance planning, spares optimization, and maintenance cost reduction initiatives
  • Align maintenance plans with operational requirements and asset criticality
  • Condition Assessment & Lifecycle Analysis
  • Conduct condition assessments and remaining life evaluations for plant equipment (CCGT / oil & gas assets)
  • Support asset lifecycle planning including refurbishment, upgrades, and replacement strategies
  • Contribute to risk-based asset management frameworks and capital planning inputs
  • Cross-functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with O&M teams, engineering teams, OEMs, and digital solution providers
  • Support client workshops, technical discussions, and improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to Asset Management and O&M solution delivery, including Maintenance Management, Monitoring & Diagnostics, Asset Performance Management, Condition Assessment, and Reliability & Resiliency support services.
  • Facilitate or support FMEA/FMECA, equipment criticality assessment, bad actor identification, defect elimination, and risk-based prioritization studies for rotating and balance-of-plant assets.
  • Develop reliability improvement plans using plant operating data, failure history, CMMS/EAM information, OEM recommendations, and applicable standards such as ISO, API, ASME, and ISO 55000.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills focused on reliability and performance improvement
  • Structured approach to asset management and maintenance planning
  • Ability to interpret operational data and translate into actionable insights
  • Collaborative team player with strong stakeholder communication skills
  • Understanding of power plant or oil & gas operational workflows
  • Working knowledge of reliability tools and methods such as FMEA/FMECA, RCM, RCFA/RCA, PM optimization, bad actor management, defect elimination, MTBF/MTBR analysis, and criticality ranking.
  • Ability to evaluate CCGT and oil & gas equipment including gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, compressors, pumps, mechanical seals, heat recovery steam generators, auxiliary systems, and refinery/process rotating equipment.
  • Comfortable working with digital monitoring platforms, condition monitoring systems, vibration data, process trends, alarm/event history, and predictive maintenance analytics to identify reliability risks and improvement opportunities.

  • 5+ years of experience in asset reliability or maintenance optimization roles
  • Experience with CCGT plants, refinery operations, or upstream/downstream oil & gas assets
  • Exposure to digital solutions such as predictive maintenance, analytics, or monitoring systems
  • Familiarity with asset management standards (e.g., ISO 55000)
  • Experience in consulting or client-facing roles
  • Experience in CCGT power generation blocks, refineries, petrochemical, LNG, gas processing, or other oil & gas facilities with exposure to rotating equipment reliability and plant operations.
  • Experience with online condition monitoring or digital model-based monitoring tools such as vibration monitoring systems, performance monitoring platforms, APM, EAM, CMMS, or predictive analytics solutions.
  • Ability to prepare client-ready reliability reports, failure investigation summaries, maintenance optimization recommendations, and asset risk prioritization outputs.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Electrical, or related engineering discipline
  • 8 -12 years of experience in reliability engineering, maintenance engineering, or asset management (CCGT / oil & gas / industrial plants)
  • Experience in maintenance planning, reliability analysis, or condition monitoring
  • Familiarity with concepts such as RCM, RCA, FMEA/FMECA, asset criticality, and lifecycle analysis
  • Basic understanding of plant systems (turbines, compressors, pumps, heat exchangers, etc.)
  • Exposure to performance monitoring, data analytics, or asset management systems (EAM/CMMS)
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Hands-on or advisory experience in reliability programs such as RCM, FMECA, asset criticality assessment, bad actor management, preventive maintenance optimization, and reliability improvement planning.
  • Experience using CMMS/EAM systems and plant data sources to review failure history, maintenance effectiveness, backlog, spares, work orders, and reliability KPIs.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or relevant work experience. 4+ years experience in a business/consulting environment. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Certifications
  • Preferred certifications or training include Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE), Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP), RCA facilitator training, ISO 55000 asset management awareness, API/ASME/ISO reliability-related training, or equivalent industry training.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
  • Ready to support US projects and work 2-11 pm shifts to ensure smooth handovers and strong collaboration with the US teams.
