Job summary

Siemens Mobility in Bangalore is seeking an experienced Commodity Buyer to lead end-to-end procurement for rolling stock and mobility projects. You will drive strategic sourcing, manage supplier relationships, and ensure cost competitiveness while aligning with project timelines and milestones.

The role requires strong bid management, cost analysis, and cross-functional collaboration across engineering, finance, and manufacturing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Supply Chain, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Supply Chain / Operations / Management is an advantage
  • 8–12 years of experience in project procurement, sourcing, or supply chain
  • Preferable experience in Rolling Stock / Rail, Heavy Engineering / Capital Projects, Mobility or Transportation sectors
  • Strong exposure to bid management, cost analysis, and supplier negotiations
  • Experience working in matrix organizations and global stakeholders
  • Project Procurement & Strategic Sourcing, Costing, Should-Costing & Commercial Analysis
  • Localization & Supplier Development, Risk Management & Capacity Planning
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and multiple priorities
  • Excellent stakeholder communication and coordination

  • Ensures supply continuity and risk mitigation for complex rolling stock projects and acts as a bridge between commercial strategy and execution.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project-specific procurement activities from bid phase through project execution and closure.
  • Develop and execute procurement strategies aligned with project timelines, cost targets, and risk profiles.
  • Ensure timely sourcing of direct materials, systems, and components in line with project milestones.
  • Monitor procurement performance and proactively mitigate supply, cost, and delivery risk
  • Costing, Bid & Margin Management: Own cost build-ups and commercial inputs for bids and tenders in coordination with bid management and engineering teams.
  • Perform detailed cost analysis, should-costing, and benchmarking to support competitive and winning bid structures.
  • Identify and implement cost reduction and margin improvement initiatives across projects.
  • Support negotiations during customer clarifications and commercial discussions.
  • Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management: Identify, qualify, and onboard strategic suppliers aligned with Siemens quality, compliance, and sustainability standards.
  • Drive supplier negotiations on price, lead time, payment terms, and contractual conditions.
  • Manage supplier performance (cost, quality, delivery) and implement corrective actions where required.
  • Develop long-term supplier partnerships to support future project pipeline and volume growth.
  • Localization & Supplier Development: Drive localization initiatives to meet cost, regulatory, and customer requirements.
  • Perform supplier capacity mapping, capability assessment, and development planning.
  • Support dual sourcing and alternate supplier strategies to reduce dependency and risk.
  • Collaborate with quality and engineering teams for localization qualification and approvals.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Engineering, Project Management, Quality, Manufacturing, Finance, and Logistics teams.
  • Ensure alignment between technical specifications, commercial objectives, and supply capabilities.
  • Act as the procurement interface for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Compliance & Governance: Ensure full compliance with Siemens procurement processes, ethics, and governance standards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for sourcing decisions, contracts, and audits.
  • Support internal and external audits related to procurement activities.
