Job summary

SkySpecs is seeking a CMS Engineer to analyze vibration data within the Horizon CMS platform and manage daily alarm escalation. You will monitor turbine components such as gearboxes and bearings, and support onboarding of new sites to the monitoring portfolio.

The role requires 3+ years in condition monitoring and strong communication in English. A mechanical/ electrical/ data science background is preferred, with experience in SCADA or vibration data workflows.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in remote condition monitoring, vibration analysis, and/or wind turbine performance engineering.
• VCAT-II Vibration Analysis Category II certification or equivalent experience.
• Strong understanding of drivetrain failure modes and troubleshooting, including root cause analysis.
• Experience with vibration analysis software and data acquisition systems.
• Fluency in English and excellent communication skills.

SkySpecs launched the world’s first completely autonomous blade inspection product in 2016 with a custom-designed drone system. Identifying issues with turbine blades is only the first step. Ultimately, this will help reduce the cost and risk of operations for the industry.

What will I be getting myself into?

You will analyse vibration data within the leading Horizon CMS analysis platform. You will execute daily alarm management and escalat[e?] findings internally. Over time, you might also be trained up to analyse SCADA data as the Horizon CMS software can cover both domains.

As a CMS Engineer, you will:

Monitor and diagnose the health condition of key wind turbine components (i.e., gearboxes, main bearings, and generators) to highlight potential failures or damage before they occur. Improve alarm strategies and threshold configurations based on feedback from the sites. Support the processes to transfer data and establish the monitoring setup for the onboarding of new sites to the portfolio.

Requirements of the job:

• 3 + years of combined experience in the fields of remote condition monitoring, vibration analysis, and/or wind turbine performance engineering.
  VCAT-II Vibration Analysis Category II certification or experience up to a comparable level.


• A thorough understanding of typical drivetrain failure modes (gearbox, generator, and bearing failure modes) and troubleshooting procedures, including root cause failure analysis.


• Experience with vibration analysis software, vibration data acquisition systems, and various condition monitoring techniques.


• Fluency in English and excellent communication skills.

Bonus points:

• Operational experience with wind turbine condition monitoring.


• Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Data Science) or applicable technical degree from an accredited university.


• Experience working with condition monitoring systems from Brüel & Kjær Vibro, Bachmann, or Bently Nevada.


• Experience with data analysis tools and scripting (e.g., Python, SQL) for SCADA and vibration data automation.
