Summary
- The Cloud Database Administrator Senior Associate is responsible for leading the design, administration, optimization, and security of cloud-based database environments primarily on Microsoft Azure. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to lead complex initiatives including performance optimization, automation, and cloud migration efforts. The Senior Associate also serves as a technical mentor and escalation point within the DBA team.
Responsibilities
- Lead administration of SQL Databases on Virtual Machines on Azure, Azure SQL PaaS Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Cosmos DB, PostgreSQL, and NoSQL platforms
- Design, implement, and maintain highly available and resilient database architectures
- Perform advanced database performance tuning, query optimization, and capacity planning
- Lead and support database migration and transformation initiatives from on-premises or legacy platforms to Azure
- Automate database administration and monitoring tasks using scripting and cloud-native tools
- Define and enforce database security, compliance, and governance standards
- Act as the primary escalation point for complex database incidents and root cause analysis
- Partner with application, DevOps, and architecture teams on database design and integration
- Mentor and review work of Associate-level DBAs, providing technical guidance and coaching
- Drive standardization, best practices, and continuous improvement across database platforms
Skills
- Strong expertise in Microsoft Azure cloud database services
- Advanced SQL Server and Azure SQL performance tuning experience
- Strong PostgreSQL administration and optimization skills
- Experience with NoSQL database design and operational management
- Deep understanding of high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity
- Proficiency in SQL, query optimization, maintenance of jobs, performance tuning, etc.
- Strong scripting and automation skills (PowerShell, Azure CLI, Bash)
- Experience with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure-as-Code practices
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
Education / Professional Experience/ Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- 5-7 years of relevant database or cloud support experience
- Azure Database Administrator Associate certification preferred
- Azure Solutions Architect or cloud security certifications preferred
