Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationship
The position of Climate Change Officer (Climate Change Adaptation) is assigned to the Strategy and Engagement Division (CCSE) within the Climate Change and Sustainable Development Department (CCSD). You will be outposted to India Resident Mission (INRM) in New Delhi. You will report to the Country Director, INRM, and to a designated technical international staff in CCSE.
Your Role
As a Climate Change Officer (Climate Change Adaptation), you will lead, coordinate, and provide technical and administrative support ensuring ADB operations in India to contribute to the country’s and ADB’s climate change agenda in line with ADB’s Strategy 2030 and its mid‑term review, and the Climate Change Action Plan 2023‑2030. You will engage with ADB’s clients and work with ADB team members on the country’s climate agenda, support programs promoting climate‑resilient and low‑carbon development as well as regional initiatives originating and supporting climate investments. This will include upstream analysis, country partnership strategy development and implementation, and annual country programming. You will also coordinate, manage, and implement technical assistance activities, and collaborate with sector teams to design and implement investments that maximize climate outcomes. Additionally, you will deliver knowledge services, build capacity, foster regional cooperation, and represent ADB in events. In this role you will work closely with regional climate focal points and with the broader ADB climate team.

This position is crucial to the Workforce Rebalancing Framework (2022–2027), a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing ADB’s in‑house expertise previously sourced from the external workforce. The role seeks seasoned experts with substantial field experience capable of leading policy dialogue, and projects focused on delivering knowledge solutions. Successful applicants may occasionally undertake short‑term assignments in other departments or offices, when required.
This opening is a local staff position. It is open only to nationals and permanent residents of India.
This is a fixed term appointment with option to renew, initially for a period of up to 3 years, or up to the Normal Retirement Date (NRD), whichever comes earlier, for the purpose(s) and conditions determined by ADB, in accordance with Administrative Order No. 2.01 (Recruitment and Appointment). After the initial fixed‑term period, ADB may choose to renew the appointment for up to an additional 3 years or not renewed. This decision will be made in the overall interest of ADB, based on factors including but not limited to the requirement of Staff’s particular blend of skills and experience for the medium‑term work program of the organizational unit, sufficient funding to cover the renewed period, and Staff’s performance and suitability for employment. There is no limit to the number of renewals up to NRD. However, this appointment is not convertible to a regular appointment.
