Job summary

Elsevier is seeking a Data Discovery and Enrichment Expert to combine chemistry expertise with GenAI search practices to optimize how researchers find chemistry information. You will design and evaluate AI-based search solutions and collaborate with Data Science and Technology partners to shape new AI search capabilities for Reaxys.

You will create high‑quality test sets, evaluate connectors, and communicate findings to improve chemistry data discovery and retrieval across research workflows.

Qualifications

• PhD or post-doctoral experience in Organic Chemistry with hands-on lab or research experience.
• Ability to design evaluation/test datasets and assess outputs from chemistry tools.
• Understanding of how chemistry data is structured and retrieved in information systems.
• Strong analytical and communication skills; able to collaborate with technical and scientific partners.
• Familiarity with AI/NLP-based or agentic systems is a plus.

About The Role

You will help design and evaluate GenAI‑based search behaviours, create high‑quality test sets for training and validation, and collaborate with Data Science and Technology partners to shape new AI search solutions for Reaxys.

• Create test sets and evaluation datasets to assess the quality, accuracy, and reliability of chemistry connectors.
• Analyze connector outputs against expected results, identifying gaps, errors, or edge cases.
• Perform data analysis and create reports summarizing evaluation results and recommendations.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to communicate findings and support issue resolution.

Requirement

• PhD or post-doctoral experience in Organic Chemistry or a closely related field, with hands‑on laboratory or research experience.
• Ability to design evaluation/test datasets and assess the quality of outputs from chemistry-related tools or systems.
• Understanding of how chemistry data is structured, represented, and retrieved in scientific information systems (e.g., databases, taxonomies, or similar platforms).
• Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and scientific partners.
• Familiarity with or interest in AI/NLP-based or agentic systems is a plus.
