Job summary

SGS India invites a Chemist to join the Coal Testing Laboratory to perform sampling and rigorous testing of coal at client plant laboratories. You will analyze coal parameters, maintain equipment, and ensure adherence to NABL procedures and quality records.

The role demands 5+ years in a coal testing lab, with hands-on operation of TGA, Bomb Calorimeter, and sulfur/phosphorus analyzers, and the ability to work independently on client sites.

Qualifications

• BSc or MSc in Chemistry required.
• Minimum 5 years in a coal testing laboratory.
• Experience with NABL and lab quality systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct sampling and testing of coal at client plant laboratories.
• Analyze coal, ash, moisture, sulfur, phosphorus, and GCV.
• Operate and maintain lab equipment (TGA, Bomb Calorimeter, etc.).
• Maintain test records and NABL-related documentation.
• Support audits, proficiency testing and corrective actions.

Job description

Job Title: Chemist Coal Testing Laboratory

Qualification: B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Chemistry

Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in a coal testing laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct sampling-related laboratory activities and testing of coal samples at the client plant laboratory.
• Perform analysis of coal, ash, moisture, sulphur, phosphorus, GCV and other relevant parameters.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as:

1. TGA (Thermo Gravimetric Analyzer)
2. Bomb Calorimeter for GCV determination
3. Sulphur Analyzer
4. Phosphorus Analysis Equipment
5. Total Moisture Testing Equipment
6. Equilibrated Moisture Testing Equipment

• Ensure testing is carried out as per applicable standards and approved procedures.
• Maintain test records, laboratory registers and quality documentation.
• Prepare and maintain NABL-related documents and records.
• Ensure timely calibration, verification and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
• Support internal/external audits, proficiency testing and corrective actions.
• Maintain laboratory quality systems and ensure compliance with required standards.
• Report laboratory results and operational issues to the Site In-Charge.
• Perform other laboratory-related activities assigned by the Site In-Charge.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of coal, ash and moisture analysis.
