Responsibilities

Reporting To - MOIC / MO/ Head - Operations

Work Experience

Minimum 1-2 years of experience as a Blood Centre/Blood Bank Technologist in a reputed organization. DMLT/BMLT/MLT qualification is mandatory for interview. Freshers and candidates with less than 1 ye

Job Purpose

To independently and efficiently perform technical operations of the Blood Centre, including blood donor screening and phlebotomy, VBD camps, blood component separation, TTI testing, blood grouping and cross-matching, and ensure accurate documentation and timely entries in the blood centre software while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Key Relationship

Patients and Attendants, Laboratory Technicians, Head - Operations, MOIC, Medical Officers, Front Office Staff, Staff Nurses and other Blood Centre personnel.

Main Responsibility

Main job responsibilities of blood centre technologists are as follows (but not limited to):

• Perform Blood Centre operations as per SOPs, quality and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct donor screening, phlebotomy and VBD camps.
• Perform ABO/Rh grouping, immunohaematology, cross-matching and compatibility testing.
• Conduct TTI screening and blood component separation/processing.
• Ensure proper identification, labelling, traceability, storage and inventory of blood/components.
• Maintain records, documentation and accurate Blood Centre software/LIS entries.
• Follow biosafety, infection-control and occupational-safety practices.
• Properly handle samples, reagents, equipment and consumables and report discrepancies/adverse events.
• Assist in quality control, calibration, maintenance and related documentation.
• Maintain technical-area housekeeping and cleanliness.
• Coordinate with MOIC/MO, nursing, front office and operations teams.
• Maintain donor and patient confidentiality.
• Perform other duties assigned by MOIC/MO/Head - Operations.

• Knowledge of Blood Centre/Blood Bank procedures, SOPs and regulatory requirements.
• Hands-on skills in blood collection, phlebotomy, VBD camps, grouping, cross-matching, immunohaematology, TTI testing and component separation.
• Understanding of storage, handling and inventory management.
• Knowledge of quality management, biosafety and infection control.
• Accuracy in documentation, software/LIS entry, identification, labelling and traceability.
• Good communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively during camps and busy operations.
• Responsible, disciplined and detail-oriented, with ability to identify/report errors and technical issues.
• Commitment to donor/patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance.
