Job summary

FenixCommerce is seeking a Backend Engineer to design, build, and scale high-performance microservices using Java and Spring Boot. You will work with Elasticsearch for search and analytics on large datasets and develop services on AWS, including EC2, S3, DynamoDB, and Kafka-based messaging.

You will collaborate with ML and data teams, participate in architecture discussions, and contribute to code quality and on-call rotations in our fast-paced, startup environment.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of hands-on experience building high-performance, scalable backend applications.
• Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, and Maven.
• Practical experience working with Elasticsearch (indexing, querying, performance)
• Hands-on experience with AWS services (EC2, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, MSK/Kafka)

The Role

We're looking for a Backend Engineer to help us build and scale the systems that process millions of delivery and carrier events daily. You'll work on high-throughput, low-latency services that directly power customer-facing accuracy and revenue outcomes.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and maintain backend microservices using Java and Spring Boot
• Build and optimize Elasticsearch-backed search and analytics features for large, fast-moving datasets
• Develop and scale services on AWS (compute, storage, messaging/Kafka, databases)
• Profile and tune applications for high throughput and low latency under production load
• Collaborate closely with our ML, data, and frontend engineering teams
• Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and on-call rotations
• Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code with strong attention to performance and reliability

What We’re Looking For

• 2+ years of hands-on experience building high-performance, scalable backend applications
• Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, and Maven
• Practical experience working with Elasticsearch (indexing, querying, performance tuning)
• Hands-on experience with AWS services (e.g., EC2, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, MSK/Kafka)
• Solid understanding of microservices architecture, REST API design, and distributed systems fundamentals
• Strong debugging and performance-optimization skills
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment with high ownership

Nice to have

• Experience with Kafka/event-driven architectures at scale
• Familiarity with DynamoDB or other NoSQL datastores
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, Docker, or Kubernetes
• Prior experience in ecommerce, logistics, or supply chain tech
