Job summary

OBS Digital Services is seeking a Backend Engineer to join our technology team in India. You will build scalable backend systems powering our food-ordering and AI-powered video processing platforms.

You will design REST APIs, manage PostgreSQL databases, and implement secure auth while enabling async processing with Celery and Redis. Collaboration with AI/ML engineers, frontend, and DevOps will be essential.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Strong knowledge of Python and modern backend frameworks.
• Experience designing scalable REST APIs and data models.
• Experience with asynchronous processing and message queues.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Python and FastAPI.
• Build and maintain REST APIs for web and mobile applications.
• Design and manage PostgreSQL databases, including schemas, relationships, indexes, and queries.
• Implement authentication, authorization, user roles, and secure API access.
• Develop asynchronous background-processing systems using Celery, Redis, or similar technologies.
• Build reliable job queues for long-running tasks such as AI processing and video processing.
• Integrate third-party APIs, webhooks, payment gateways, and external services.

Backend Engineer

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Backend Engineer to join our growing technology team. You will work on the backend systems powering our upcoming products, including a food-ordering platform and an AI-powered video processing and clipping platform.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable building scalable APIs, working with databases and background processing systems, integrating third-party services, and developing reliable production-ready software.

Role & Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Python and FastAPI.
• Build and maintain REST APIs for web and mobile applications.
• Design and manage PostgreSQL databases, including schemas, relationships, indexes, and queries.
• Implement authentication, authorization, user roles, and secure API access.
• Develop asynchronous background-processing systems using Celery, Redis, or similar technologies.
• Build reliable job queues for long-running tasks such as AI processing, video processing, notifications, and other automated workflows.
• Integrate third-party APIs, webhooks, payment gateways, and external services.
• Develop backend infrastructure for multi-user SaaS applications.
• Work with large file and video-processing workflows where required.
• Build APIs and services that communicate with AI/ML and video-processing workers.
• Implement proper error handling, logging, retries, validation, and monitoring.
• Optimize backend performance, database queries, and API response times.
• Implement secure file uploads, storage, and access systems.
• Work with cloud storage and services such as S3-compatible object storage.
• Write clean, maintainable, modular, and well-documented code.
• Write unit and integration tests using Pytest.
• Participate in code reviews and maintain development standards using Git.
• Work closely with AI/ML engineers, frontend developers, Flutter developers, DevOps engineers, and QA engineers.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues.
• Help design the technical architecture as the products scale.

Preferred Candidate Profile

• 3+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Strong knowledge of Python.
• Strong experience with FastAPI, Django, or similar backend frameworks.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs and backend architecture.
• Good knowledge of PostgreSQL and SQL.
• Experience with Redis and asynchronous processing.
• Experience with Celery, RabbitMQ, Kafka, or similar queue systems.
• Good understanding of authentication, authorization, JWT, OAuth, and API security.
• Experience with Docker and Linux.
• Strong Git/GitHub or GitLab experience.
• Experience building and integrating third-party APIs and webhooks.
• Understanding of database optimization, indexing, transactions, and query optimization.
• Experience writing automated tests with Pytest or similar frameworks.
• Understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Ability to design modular and scalable backend systems.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving abilities.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned features.
