Job summary

Deutsche Bank Bangalore is seeking an experienced Backend Developer (AVP) to lead technical delivery across components and services. You will design, implement and test high-performance systems, collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet business goals.

You will work on Java/Kotlin, Spring, microservices, and modern data platforms, while driving automated testing, on-call support, and rapid delivery within an agile environment.

Qualifications

• Proficient in spec-driven development and AI-assisted tooling.
• Strong Java/Kotlin skills and understanding of OO and functional paradigms.
• Experience building data engineering solutions.
• Hands-on with Java, Spring, Maven, PHP, Redis and Elastic Search.
• Familiar with GitHub Actions, CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes and Helm.
• Experience with Apigee, agile teams, and automated testing is desirable.
• Knowledge of architectures like DDD, CQRS, microservices and API design.
• Experience with SQL data access and databases (Oracle, Postgres).
• Ability to evolve legacy PHP code safely.

Responsibilities

• Lead feature teams, gather requirements, design, implement, test and production support.
• Apply BDD with users, analysts, and testers to ensure the right outcomes.
• Rapid prototype development and clean, test-driven coding.
• Work across UI, services and databases; act as a generalizing specialist.
• Shape component architecture and contribute to department-wide decisions.
• Ensure reliable production software and 3rd-line on-call support when needed.
• Develop and maintain automated delivery pipelines with minimal waste.

Your key responsibilities

• Lead the feature team, collaborating with others to understand requirements, analyze and refine stories, design solutions, implement them, test them and support them in production
• Use BDD techniques, collaborating closely with users, analysts, developers and other testers. Make sure we are building the right thing.
• Rapid prototype development
• Write code and write it well. Be proud to call yourself a programmer. Use test driven development, write clean code and refactor constantly. Make sure we are building the thing right.
• Be ready to work on a range of technologies and components, including user interfaces, services and databases. Act as a generalizing specialist.
• Define and evolve the architecture of the components you are working on and contribute to architectural decisions at a department and bank-wide level.
• Ensure that the software you build is reliable and easy to support in production. Be prepared to take your turn on call providing 3rd line support when it’s needed
• Help your team to build, test and release software within short lead times and with minimum of waste. Work to develop and maintain a highly automated Continuous Delivery pipeline.
• Help create a culture of learning and continuous improvement within your team and beyond

Your skills and experience

• Experienced in Spec Driven Development using AI tools.
• Proficiency in Java /Kotlin with good understanding of both object oriented and functional programming concepts.
• Practical experience in building data engineering solutions
• Strong knowledge of Java, Spring, Spring Boot, Maven, PHP, Reddis , Elastic Search
• Strong knowledge of Github Actions, CI/CD pipeline , Container-native delivery : Docker , Kubernetes, Helpm
• Experience with setting up key stores, generating SSL Certificates, Gateways , Apigee
• Experience working in an agile team, practicing Scrum, Kanban or XP
• Experience of Automated Testing is highly desirable
• Architecture and design approaches that support rapid, incremental and iterative delivery, such as Domain Driven Design, CQRS, Event Sourcing and microservices.
• Deep API design (GraphQL and REST) and inter-service communication (sync + async/eventing)
• High performance SQL data access - SQL scripts
• Database: Oracle 10G or higher for Liquibase database automation and Postgres – modelling, performance , zero-low downtime schema change
• Ability to read and safely evolve an unfamiliar legacy PHP codebase

Proven ability to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity, optimise workflows to solve business problems, while applying critical judgment to ensure responsible and ethical use of data and AI outputs.
