Backend Developer – PHP & Laravel / CodeIgniter & REST API

Location: Mumbai

Start Date: Immediately

Duration: 6 Months Internship

Stipend (Internship Period): ?10,000 – ?20,000 / month

Full-Time Salary (Post PPO): ?4 LPA – ?8 LPA (based on performance)

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled Backend Developer (PHP & Laravel/CodeIgniter) to strengthen the core of Websites.co.in, the world’s easiest website builder for small businesses. You will play a crucial role in scaling and stabilizing a high-traffic platform used by over 3.5 million users across 200+ countries.

This is a hands-on role, central to everything we’re building, from automated site generation and user dashboards to AI-driven insights and payment integrations.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the core backend platform using PHP (Laravel/CodeIgniter) and MySQL.
• Build and manage RESTful APIs to power mobile apps, dashboards, onboarding flows, and third-party integrations.
• Optimize database queries, implement caching, and improve backend performance to handle large-scale traffic.
• Support critical modules such as:
  • Automated website creation from business data
  • Domain name management and verification
  • In-app upgrades, subscription billing, and payment flows
• Collaborate with frontend and mobile developers to ensure seamless data exchange and great user experiences.
• Implement and support internal tools for analytics, lead scoring, and performance reporting.
• Ensure backend systems are secure, scalable, and well-documented.
• Work with DevOps teams to manage deployments on the LEMP stack (Linux, Nginx, MySQL, PHP).
• Stay updated with the latest Laravel/CodeIgniter releases, PHP performance enhancements, and modern backend practices.

Requirements

• Strong experience with PHP and Laravel framework (CodeIgniter experience also acceptable).
• Hands-on with MySQL/PostgreSQL, REST APIs, OAuth 2.0, cURL, and queue workers.
• Proficiency in Linux server handling, Nginx configuration, and basic shell scripting.
• Familiarity with deployment tools, Git workflows, and CI/CD setups.
• Ability to debug and maintain large legacy codebases.
• Strong problem-solving skills with an ownership mindset.
