Qualifications

Role Summary/Purpose

This role will be responsible for development and support of Web based digital applications and delivering high-quality solutions. The ideal candidate would be part of a major technology transformation team responsible for moving towards cloud platform using Java, Spring boot and Node.js, and will leverage working knowledge of platforms such as PCF and AWS. The individual will set engineering standards, perform code reviews, mentor developers, and partner with cross-functional and geographically distributed teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of developers, fostering a culture of ownership, engineering excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Perform regular code reviews to ensure code quality, security, maintainability, and alignment with architecture and engineering standards.
• Provide hands-on development across the stack using Java Spring boot framework and Node.js (for backend), ReactJs (for frontend) including building APIs, Micro-services, and UI components.
• Drive technical design discussions and guide implementation decisions (system design, integration patterns, performance, scalability, and reliability).
• Oversee delivery execution for the team: plan work, manage priorities, remove blockers, and ensure timely completion of commitments.
• Develop and maintain integrations with APIs, webhooks, authentication, and partner onboarding workflows.
• Collaborate closely with Product, UX, QA, and Operations across the SDLC—from requirements through release and post-production support.
• Support production readiness and operational excellence: troubleshoot issues, lead root-cause analysis, and implement preventive improvements.
• Promote and improve engineering practices including CI/CD, automated testing, coding standards, and technical documentation.
• Coordinate effectively with geographically distributed teams and ensure consistent implementation of shared standards and processes.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience, with 4+ years in software engineering and 2+ years in a technical leadership/lead engineer role.
• 4+ years of expertise in Java, Spring boot, Node JS and React JS, with proven ability to lead design and implementation for complex web applications.
• Solid experience with modern architecture patterns (REST APIs, event-driven systems), and building mission-critical services with high availability and performance.
• Experience with Micro-Frontends (preferred) and front-end architecture, including shared components, governance, and build/deploy strategies.
• Working knowledge of AWS services and cloud-native practices (preferred), including security, scalability, and cost-aware design.
• Familiarity with Apigee or a similar API management platform is preferred but not required.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, automation, and DevOps practices; ability to influence release strategy and improve engineering productivity.
• Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL data stores, data modeling, and performance tuning.
• Strong understanding of SDLC (Agile), release management, and change/incident management; comfortable leading technical ceremonies (grooming, design reviews, retros).
• AI-assisted development experience: practical use of tools such as GitHub Copilot/ChatGPT/enterprise LLMs to accelerate coding, testing, refactoring, documentation, and code reviews—while ensuring secure usage, code quality, and compliance.
• Excellent verbal/written communication, stakeholder management, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills; able to articulate technical trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Willingness to work flexible shifts/on-call as needed to support production issues and critical releases.

Work Timings: 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM IST

This role qualifies for Enhanced Flexibility offered in Synchrony India and will require the incumbent to be available between 06:00 AM Eastern Time – 11:30 AM Eastern Time (timings are anchored to US Eastern hours and will adjust twice a year locally). This window is for meetings with India and US teams. The remaining hours will be flexible for the employee to choose. Exceptions may apply periodically due to business needs. We are proud to offer flexibility at Synchrony. Our way of working allows you the option to work from home or workspaces in our Regional Engagement Hubs—Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Kolkata, or Delhi/NCR.

Occasionally you may be required to commute or travel to Hyderabad or one of the Regional Engagement Hubs for in person engagement activities such as business or team meetings, trainings, and culture events.
