Job summary

Newpage Solutions seeks an Associate Software Engineer to build production-ready ML and data applications, from model training to cloud and edge deployment. You will train models with PyTorch, TensorFlow and scikit-learn, and develop NLP/data pipelines on AWS.

The role involves backend services in Python/Java/Node.js, and collaboration with scientists and engineers. Remote contract position for recent graduates with 1–2 years in AI/ML.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 1–2 years hands-on AI/ML or software engineering exposure.
• Practical experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, OpenCV and Pandas.
• Familiarity with Docker, Git/GitHub, Linux and AWS services.
• Experience with NoSQL or graph databases (MongoDB, Neo4j) and Elasticsearch.
• Understanding of RL, NLP, or model tuning and optimization.
• Agile teamwork and good version-control habits.
• Strong technical report writing and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, train and deploy ML and deep learning models with PyTorch, TensorFlow and scikit-learn.
• Build NLP and data pipelines from large unstructured datasets.
• Design scalable data workflows in Python and Pandas on AWS for model training.
• Package and ship applications with Docker and Git for reliable releases.
• Build and maintain backend services and APIs in Python, Java and Node.js/Express.
• Set up search and storage with Elasticsearch, MongoDB and Neo4j.
• Deploy models to edge devices and connect alerts (e.g., Twilio SMS).
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers and business teams to turn problems into AI solutions.
• Test, monitor and tune AI apps; resolve issues with senior engineers.
• Ensure enterprise security and compliance in systems.

Your Mission

Build and ship production-ready ML and data applications that turn complex scientific and enterprise data into real-world impact, from model training to cloud and edge deployment.

What You’ll Do

• Develop, train and deploy ML and deep learning models with PyTorch, TensorFlow and scikit-learn.


• Build NLP and data pipelines that pull insights from large, unstructured datasets.


• Design scalable data workflows in Python and Pandas on AWS (EC2) for high-volume model training and evaluation.


• Package and ship applications with Docker and Git, supporting smooth, reliable releases.


• Build and maintain backend services and APIs in Python, Java and Node.js/Express.


• Set up search and storage layers using Elasticsearch, MongoDB and Neo4j.


• Deploy models to edge devices and connect alerts and notifications (e.g., Twilio SMS).


• Work with scientists, engineers and business teams to turn domain problems into working AI solutions.


• Test, monitor and tune AI applications, and resolve technical issues with senior engineers.


• Build systems that meet enterprise security and compliance standards.


• Present technical work and results clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

What You Bring

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (recent graduates welcome).


• 1–2 years of hands‑on experience from internships, co‑ops or research roles in AI/ML or software engineering.


• Practical experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, OpenCV and Pandas.


• Familiarity with Docker, Git/GitHub, Linux and AWS cloud services.


• Experience with NoSQL or graph databases (MongoDB, Neo4j) and search tools like Elasticsearch.


• An understanding of reinforcement learning, NLP, or model tuning and optimization.


• Experience working in Agile teams, with solid version‑control habits.


• Strong communication skills, including writing technical reports and presenting at conferences.


• Curiosity and a research mindset. A publication record or exposure to life sciences or pharma is a plus.
