Job summary

Relx Plc is seeking an Associate Scientific Editor/Scientific Editor for iScience. You will edit manuscripts in CS, EE, data science, ML, and related fields, coordinate peer review, and engage with the scientific community.

The role requires a PhD in CS/EE/Math/Data Science/Info Sci or related field, strong research experience, and hands-on coding/algorithm skills. Travel to conferences and collaboration across Cell Press are expected.

Qualifications

• PhD degree in CS/EE/Math/Data Science/Info Sci or related field.
• Research experience with peer‑reviewed publications.
• Strong coding, algorithm development and analytical skills.
• Editorial experience is a plus but not required.
• Ability to work independently and in a global team.
• Willingness to travel to conferences and institutes.

We aim to fuel interdisciplinary thinking and consider research with significant contribution to a relevant field combined with robust results and underlying methodology. **About the role**We are seeking an editor with strong background in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, or Information Science, or a related field to join our editorial team. In this role, you will help shape the journal by managing submissions, coordinating peer review, and engaging with the scientific community. You will work closely with a collaborative team dedicated to advancing open science and interdisciplinary research. **Please submit your CV and a cover letter explaining your interest in the role and how your skills and experience will contribute to iScience**.**Responsibilities*** Review, evaluate, and provide constructive feedback on submitted manuscripts and research papers in computer science, electrical engineering, data science, machine learning, and related fields.* Providing outstanding author service and overseeing the peer review process.* Establishing relationships with scientists in physical science area through outreach to research communities and recruit exciting papers.* Traveling to scientific conferences and visit academic institutes.* Strengthening and building the visibility and reputation of the journal.* Contributing to strategic planning and journal development with the editorial team.* Building effective working relationships with colleagues across Cell Press and beyond.* Contributing to broader Cell Press initiatives to shape the future of science communication**.** **Requirements*** The ideal candidate will have a PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, or Information Science, or a related field.* Have research experience in a relevant field and a broad scientific interest, with a track record of peer-reviewed publications, and with strong hands-on experience in coding, algorithm development, engineering principles, and analytical skills.* Previous editorial experience, with a good understanding of all aspects of the journal publishing process, would be an added advantage but not an requirement.* Utilize critical thinking and the willingness to learn and absorb new areas of research.* Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills with a collaborative problem-solving mindset.* Interest in engaging with the scientific community.* Able to work successfully both independently and in a diverse global team.* The designation will be based on experience and interview performance.**Work in a way that works for you**We promote a healthy work/life balance across the organisation.
