Job summary

Hitachi Energy India Development Centre in Bengaluru seeks an experienced Substation Automation engineer to join its R&D testing team. You will verify and validate substation software, focusing on protection and communication modules, and support end-to-end testing of bay-level solutions.

You will work on IEC 61850, DNP3, and time synchronization protocols, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality automation software and compliant processes.

Qualifications

• Required bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical/electronic engineering with 3–8 years of practical experience in Substation Automation.
• Technical proficiency in protection and communication protocols used in substations (IEC61850, DNP3, Sampled Values, Time Synchronization).
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python/Java/C# and good English communication.

Responsibilities

• Verify & validate substation automation products - Numerical Relays.
• Participate in test core team workshops to understand product test requirements and perform software/domain tests.
• Develop new test cases for system and product requirements and report test defects.
• Collaborate with product stakeholders including management, analysts, and developers.
• Ensure integration of subsystems in modular, maintainable software meeting specifications.
• Ensure compliance with external and internal regulations and guidelines.

How will you make an impact:

• To Verify & validate of substation automation product - Numerical Relays.

• To Participate in test core team workshop to understand the product test requirements and performs software/domain test activities on system/product projects, including design, coding, and black box testing of software modules in line with the quality management system

• Developing new and adaptive design of test cases for system and product requirements. Report & verify the test defect logs captured during the testing phase of the assigned product.

• Partnering well with a variety of different product stakeholder groups, including management at different levels, business analysts and developer’s community.

• Technically responsible to ensure the mutual consistency and efficient integration of the several subsystems in modular, easy-to-maintain and extendible software that meets the product specification.

• Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your Background:

• Required bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical / Electronic Engineering with 3-8 years of practical experience in Substation Automation.

• Should be technically sound in the field of protection and communication protocols used in substation (Ex. IEC 61850, DNP3, Sampled Values, Time Synchronization protocols)

• Should have knowledge on computer networks. OSI Layers, and different protocols in each layer is a plus.

• Should be proficient in any programming language such as Python/Java/C#.

• Knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle especially the Agile development method is a plus.

• Should have effective communication skills needed to collaborate with team members.

• Proficiency in both spoken & written English language is required.
