Job summary

Indegene in Bengaluru is seeking an Associate Manager – Scientific Writing to lead medical communications projects across therapeutic areas. You will develop and review scientific content, ensure accuracy, and coordinate with clients to deliver high-quality deliverables.

You will mentor junior writers, manage timelines, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain scientific integrity and messaging across communications and publications.

Qualifications

• 9–12 years of relevant experience in Scientific Writing, Medical Communications, Medical Writing, Clinical Research, or related pharma/life sciences environment.
• Strong hands-on experience in developing and reviewing scientific/medical communication deliverables.
• Demonstrated experience in client-facing discussions and independently managing scientific content requirements.
• Experience in mentoring junior writers is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Independently develop, review, and oversee scientific content across deliverables (slide decks, presentations, newsletters, brochures, trial summaries, educational materials).
• Define content structure, narrative, and data presentation for target audiences.
• Conduct literature searches (PubMed/Embase) and synthesize evidence to support content.
• Engage with clients in calls and meetings and translate requirements into content plans.
• Ensure scientific and editorial quality, accuracy, and alignment with briefs.
• Collaborate with writers, design teams, project managers, and stakeholders to ensure timely delivery and risk mitigation.
• Follow SOPs and compliance protocols and mentor junior writers for capability development.
• Stay current with medical literature and evolving medical communication practices.

Associate Manager – Scientific Writing (Medical Communications)

Role Summary

We are looking for an experienced Scientific Writing / Medical Communications professional to join the team as Associate Manager – Scientific Writing. The role requires strong scientific writing and reviewing expertise, excellent client communication skills, and the ability to independently manage medical communication deliverables across multiple therapeutic areas.

The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring scientific accuracy, content quality, appropriate interpretation of clinical data, timely delivery, and client satisfaction, while also mentoring junior writers and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Scientific Content Development & Review
  • Independently develop, review, and provide scientific oversight for a wide range of medical communication deliverables, including slide decks, scientific presentations, newsletters, brochures, clinical trial summaries, educational materials, and other scientific content.
  • Ensure deliverables meet high standards of scientific accuracy, clinical relevance, grammatical quality, consistency, referencing, and client expectations.
• Scientific Storytelling & Content Strategy
  • Determine the most effective content structure, scientific narrative, data presentation, and communication approach based on the target audience and purpose of the deliverable.
  • Translate complex clinical and scientific information into clear, accurate, concise, and audience-appropriate scientific communication.
• Literature Search & Evidence Analysis
  • Conduct comprehensive literature searches using scientific databases such as PubMed and Embase.
  • Critically evaluate and synthesize published literature, clinical trial data, and other scientific evidence to support content development.
  • Identify and appropriately manage data discrepancies, conflicting evidence, and referencing requirements.
• Client Engagement & Scientific Consultation
  • Actively participate in client calls, meetings, and scientific discussions.
  • Understand and interpret client requirements and translate them into clear content strategies and actionable deliverables.
  • Provide recommendations to clients on the scientific approach, content flow, positioning, presentation of evidence, and communication strategy.
• Quality & Scientific Review
  • Take ownership of the scientific and editorial quality of content developed internally.
  • Review deliverables for scientific validity, accuracy, completeness, logical flow, grammar, consistency, referencing, and alignment with the agreed brief.
  • Ensure appropriate incorporation of client feedback while maintaining scientific integrity.
• Project & Stakeholder Management
  • Collaborate closely with scientific/medical writers, creative/design teams, project managers, and other internal stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Manage priorities across multiple projects and ensure deliverables are completed within agreed quality standards and timelines.
  • Proactively identify potential content or delivery risks and work with relevant stakeholders to resolve them.
• Process & Compliance
  • Follow organizational and departmental best practices related to scientific writing, content development, project management, documentation, communication, referencing, quality control, confidentiality, and information security.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable SOPs, quality systems, processes, policies, training requirements, and client specifications.
• People Development & Mentoring
  • Mentor and groom junior scientific writers, providing constructive feedback and guidance to strengthen their scientific writing, literature evaluation, data interpretation, and communication skills.
  • Support knowledge-sharing initiatives and contribute to capability development within the Scientific Writing team.
• Learning & Capability Building
  • Participate in relevant scientific, technical, therapeutic-area, and process training programs.
  • Stay current with medical literature, clinical research developments, therapeutic-area advances, and evolving medical communication practices and apply relevant learnings to projects.
