Job description

ABOUT US:

Bain & Company is a global consultancy that helps the world’s most ambitious change-makers define the future. Across 65 offices in 40 countries, we work alongside our clients as one team with a shared ambition to achieve extraordinary results, outperform the competition, and redefine industries. Since our founding in 1973, we have measured our success by the success of our clients, and we proudly maintain the highest level of client advocacy in the industry.

In 2004, the firm established its presence in the Indian market by opening the Bain Capability Center (BCC) in New Delhi. The BCC is now known as BCN (Bain Capability Network) with its nodes across various geographies. Expert Client Delivery (ECD) is an integral unit of BCN. ECD plays a critical role as it adds value to Bain's case teams globally by supporting them with analytics and research solutions across all industries, specific domains for corporate cases, client development, private equity diligence, and Bain intellectual property.

Role Overview

This role is designed for a sector-focused Project Lead with expertise in Global Chemicals & Utilities. The individual will combine consulting problem-solving with domain-led insight to support global case teams, develop high-impact client solutions, and help build differentiated products and capabilities for Bain’s Chemicals & Utlities Practice.

This role requires a leader who is equally comfortable driving strategic analyses, managing small teams, and shaping innovative offerings that leverage emerging technology and analytical tools.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead workstreams and oversee delivery for Chemicals & Utlities client case work, client account development, and proposal support, in line with BCN’s role in supporting Bain case teams globally.
  • Translate client situations into clear analytical approaches, identify key issues, and help drive practical, actionable recommendations.
  • Apply sound business judgment and relevant analytical tools to solve complex problems in the utilities and renewables space.
  • Support the development of sector-specific solutions, analytical products, and reusable intellectual property for Bain’s Utilities & Renewables clients, building on the ENR CoE mandate to develop and deploy industry-specific analytical products and topic expertise.
  • Lead effective team and stakeholder discussions, synthesize insights clearly, and present recommendations to Bain clients and partners
  • Manage and coach teams of approximately 2–3 FTEs, typically Analysts and Associates, while ensuring high-quality execution and strong team development.
  • Take responsibility for work planning, stream allocation, workload management, and timely delivery of zero-defect output.
  • Contribute to capability building within the team, including coaching, training, and selective support on office-building initiatives such as recruitment and knowledge development.
About You
Required experience
  • Sector knowledge & experience of global Chemical & Utilities, including value chains, market structures, business models, regulatory dynamics, and key strategic trends
  • Prior consulting experience, ideally with exposure to strategy, performance improvement, transformation, or analytics-led problem solving in the energy sector
  • Experience managing small teams of 2–3 FTEs in a consulting, analytics, or client delivery environment
  • Strong track record of solving complex business problems through structured analysis and clear recommendation development
  • Experience engaging with senior stakeholders and working in fast-paced, high-expectation environments
Required capabilities
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, consistent with the expectations for BCN Project Leader roles.
  • Ability to lead multiple workstreams, prioritize effectively, and operate with a high degree of ownership
  • Comfort working with data, hypothesis-driven problem solving, and analytical toolkits
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills; familiarity with Python, R, or other advanced analytics / digital tools is preferred and aligned with the baseline ENR CoE profile.
  • Demonstrated interest in developing innovative solutions and products using new technologies, data assets, and analytical approaches
What Will Make You Successful
  • You bring credible, practitioner-level insight into Chemical & Utilities rather than only general energy experience
  • You can move fluidly between sector expertise, team leadership, and hands-on analytical problem solving
  • You are energised by building new solutions, not only executing existing approaches
  • You are comfortable operating globally and collaborating with Bain stakeholders across geographies and case contexts
  • You balance client impact, team development, and capability building
