Job summary

Medtronic is seeking a Senior Software Engineering Manager - SW V&V to lead and mature the Software Quality & V&V organization at MEIC. You will drive test strategy, automation frameworks, defect management, and regulatory compliance, coordinating across global R&D teams and product lines to ensure safety and performance of medical devices.

You will manage large testing teams, align resources to milestones, and shape the test lifecycle for regulatory submissions, with travel up to 15% as needed.

Qualifications

• 18+ years in software engineering, test engineering, and product quality in global product development.
• 8+ years hands-on Software Verification & Validation, test automation, and OS/Android/iOS stacks.
• 5+ years in software engineering management overseeing V&V/QA initiatives and staffing.
• Experience leading large testing teams and Test Leads with regulatory submissions in mind.

Responsibilities

• Lead software testing, test automation, and validation for complex systems.
• Direct V&V project execution across multiple product lines and cross-functional alignment.
• Establish test strategies, automation frameworks, and continuous testing pipelines (Cloud, Mobile, Embedded).
• Own end-to-end V&V deliverables required for regulatory submissions.

A Day in the Life

As the Senior Software Engineering Manager - SW V&V, you will be accountable for growing, sustaining, and advancing the Software Quality & V&V organization at MEIC. Positioned within the Global R&D structure, you will direct test strategy, automation frameworks, defect management, and regulatory test compliance to ensure superior product safety and performance.
You will manage V&V project execution across multiple product lines within NMPH, align cross-functional resources with strategic milestones, and establish strategic partnerships with global R&D teams.

Critical Role Requirements:

• Software V&V Leadership: Proven track record leading software testing, test automation, and validation organizations for complex software systems.

• People Management: Extensive experience leading multi-tier software teams.

• Quality & Compliance Standards: Strong mastery of medical device software quality standards, risk-based testing strategies, and verification methodologies.

• Delivery Excellence: Proven success driving test efficiency through continuous automation, CI/CD integration, and robust defect lifecycle management.

Required Skills & Competencies

• Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) or Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Computer Science, Electronics/Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent from a reputed institute.

• Preferred: Master of Engineering (M.E.) or Master of Technology (M.Tech) in Computer Science, Biomedical, Electronics/Electrical Engineering, or equivalent

• 18+ years of total experience in software engineering, test engineering, and product quality in a global product development environment.

• 8+ years of hands-on experience in Software Verification & Validation (V&V), test automation architectures Operating System: Android/iOS, Java, Groovy, Selenium, Appium, Spock Framework, BDD-Gherkin.

• 5+ years in software engineering management, explicitly overseeing V&V/QA initiatives, resource planning.

• Proven experience managing large testing teams, and Test Leads as direct reports.

• Demonstrated expertise in Medical Device Software Standards (e.g., IEC 62304, FDA 21 CFR Part 11/820, ISO 13485, ISO 14971) or equivalent highly regulated industry domain standards.

• Experience establishing test strategies, test automation frameworks, regression suites, and continuous testing pipelines across Cloud (AWS/Azure), Full-Stack, Mobile Apps, and Embedded systems.

• Experience owning end-to-end V&V deliverables (Test Plans, Protocols, Traceability Matrices, Defect Analysis, and Test Summary Reports) required for regulatory submissions.

• Strong leadership, managerial courage, and risk management capability to make critical decisions regarding software release readiness and quality gates.

• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and negotiation skills to influence global cross-functional partners (R&D, Regulatory, Quality Assurance, and Product Management).

• Fluency in English with up to 15% domestic and international travel capability.

Principal Working Relationships

• Collaborates closely with global Software Development, Systems Engineering, Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance (QA), and Project Management teams. Serves as the primary V&V contact at MEIC for global leadership to ensure robust software quality and seamless regulatory compliance.

• Master's degree (M.Tech / M.S.) in a relevant technical field.

• Certified Software Quality Engineer (CSQE) or ISTQB Advanced / Expert Level Certification.

• Certified in Lean Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt) practices.

• Agile/Scrum Master Certification (CSM / SAFe).
