Job summary

Eaton Group in Pune, India is seeking an entry-level embedded software engineer to design and implement firmware in C/C++ for MCU-based platforms. You will translate system needs into robust software solutions.

The role targets 0–1 year of embedded experience, a related bachelor’s degree, and collaboration across hardware, software, and cybersecurity teams. You will contribute to reliable, scalable firmware in a multidisciplinary setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in a related engineering field.
• 0-1 year embedded software or firmware experience; internships considered.
• Proficiency in embedded C; familiarity with RTOS and microcontroller bring-up.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain embedded firmware in C/C++ for MCU-based platforms.
• Implement bootloaders, secure boot, firmware update, rollback and recovery.
• Develop base software, BSPs, HALs, and device drivers.
• Configure RTOS-based software including tasks, scheduling, interrupts, and timers.
• Support cybersecurity through secure coding, authentication, cryptography, and vulnerability remediation.
• Develop and test interfaces (I2C/SMBus/PMBus, SPI, UART, CAN, Modbus, GPIO, ADC, PWM, Ethernet).
• Translate system and product needs into software requirements, designs, interfaces, and test cases.
• Support firmware for data center controllers (power, fan, sensor, rack-management, power-supply).

Job description

What you’ll do:

1. Develop and maintain embedded firmware in C/C++ for microcontroller- and processor-based platforms.
2. Implement and integrate bootloaders, secure boot, firmware update, rollback, and recovery mechanisms.
3. Develop base software, board-support packages, hardware-abstraction layers, and peripheral device drivers.
4. Configure and develop RTOS-based software, including tasks, scheduling, interrupts, timers, inter-task communication, and resource management.
5. Support cybersecurity implementation through secure coding, authentication, access control, cryptographic services, vulnerability remediation, and threat-mitigation activities.
6. Develop and test interfaces such as I2C/SMBus/PMBus, SPI, UART, CAN, Modbus, GPIO, ADC, PWM, and Ethernet, as applicable.
7. Translate system and product needs into clear software requirements, designs, interfaces, and test cases while maintaining traceability.
8. Support firmware for data center controllers, including power, fan, sensor, rack-management, and power-supply applications.
9. Contribute to embedded development for electrical-sector products, including monitoring, protection, control, and power-management applications.
10. Perform unit, integration, hardware-in-the-loop, and system testing; debug issues using standard embedded development tools.
11. Participate in code reviews, static analysis, defect resolution, configuration management, and CI/CD activities.
12. Create and maintain requirements, design documents, test evidence, release notes, and other lifecycle documentation.

Qualifications:

Education level required : Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer, Instrumentation, or Software Engineering, or a related discipline.

Years and area of experience required: 0-1 years of experience in embedded software or firmware development; relevant internships or project experience may be considered.

Technical knowledge:

• Proficiency in embedded C; working knowledge of C++.
• Fundamentals of microcontrollers/SoCs, memory, interrupts, timers, watchdogs, and board bring-up.
• Hands-on exposure to an RTOS and concepts such as tasks, scheduling, semaphores, queues, and concurrency.
• Understanding of bootloaders, secure boot, firmware update, rollback, and recovery concepts.
• Exposure to base software, board-support packages, hardware-abstraction layers, and device-driver development.
• Knowledge of embedded communication protocols such as I2C/SMBus/PMBus, SPI, UART, CAN, Modbus, GPIO, and Ethernet.
• Awareness of embedded cybersecurity principles, secure coding, authentication, cryptography, threat modeling, and vulnerability management.
• Ability to interpret system requirements and create software requirements, designs, test cases, and traceability.
• Experience with debugging tools, oscilloscopes or logic analyzers, Git, issue tracking, unit testing, and static analysis.
• Awareness of MISRA C/C++ and embedded software development lifecycle practices is preferred.
• Exposure to data center controller firmware or electrical-sector products is an advantage.
