WSP in India is seeking an ambitious Associate to join the Decarbonisation and Resilience team within the Sustainability Advisory GCC. The role supports UK-based projects and works across built environment, infrastructure, and energy sectors.

You will lead multidisciplinary project delivery, manage client relationships, contribute to business development, and help build a high-performing team across Noida, Mumbai or Bengaluru offices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in sustainability, environmental science, architecture, mechanical/energy/process engineering or related field with professional body membership.
  • Experience managing projects, teams and client relationships in a consultancy setting with strong time management.
  • Good knowledge of UK/European legislation and assessment methods; commercial and stakeholder awareness.
  • Strong energy and sustainability understanding; bids and proposals experience.
  • Excellent research, analytical and communication skills; proactive, collaborative and curious.
  • Ability to work across disciplines, cultures and geographies; advantageous chartership progress.

Job Description

We are seeking an ambitious and dynamic Associate to join our Decarbonisation and Resilience team within the Sustainability Advisory GCC. This role is open for either of our office locations in India.i.e. Noida, Mumbai and Bangalore.

The team supports clients across net zero and carbon strategy; whole-life carbon assessment; sustainability certification; climate change vulnerability, resilience and adaptation; and industrial decarbonisation; for the UK based projects.

Responsibilities
  • Act as a technical lead across the Decarbonisation and Resilience portfolio, with deep expertise in several of the following areas and working knowledge of the others:
    • Whole-life carbon assessment for built environment and infrastructure projects, with additional experience in mining and energy-sector decarbonisation considered advantageous
    • Net zero and carbon strategy
    • Sustainability certification, including BREEAM buildings and infrastructure, LEED, WELL and Home Quality Mark
    • Climate risk (physical and transition), resilience, vulnerability and adaptation
    • Industrial decarbonisation including CCUS, industrial due diligence, Energy modelling and strategy, CBAM advisory, clean fuels and policy support.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project delivery, ensuring high-quality outputs and effective resource planning.
  • Build and manage strong client and stakeholder relationships through clear communication, sound judgement and a solutions-focused approach.
  • Apply cost-benefit analysis and commercial awareness to support robust, practical recommendations.
  • Prepare, review and quality-assure technical and commercial reports, proposals and other client deliverables. Manage commercial allocation for the India based team on a project.
  • Contribute to business development by identifying opportunities and leading or supporting bids and proposals.
  • Lead and develop the team by managing performance, workload, utilisation, technical quality and delivery standards.
  • Assess capability and training needs, support professional development and foster a collaborative, high‑performing team culture.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues across global teams; experience of delivering international projects especially in the UK or working within a Global Capability Centre model is desirable.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in sustainability, decarbonisation, climate resilience or a related field.
  • A relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree in sustainability, environmental science, architecture, mechanical engineering, energy engineering, process engineering or a related discipline, together with membership of an appropriate environmental, architectural or sustainability professional body.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing projects, teams and client relationships in a consultancy environment, supported by strong personal organisation, time management and resource‑planning skills.
  • Good knowledge of relevant UK and European legislation, as well as UK and international assessment methods, standards and protocols.
  • A strong understanding of, and enthusiasm for, energy and sustainability.
  • Demonstrable experience of supporting business development and preparing successful bids and proposals.
  • Strong research, analytical, technical writing, presentation and communication skills.
  • A proactive, can‑do attitude, with curiosity and an appetite to learn and grow.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across disciplines, cultures and geographies.
  • Commercial and practical understanding of building design, construction or energy projects would be advantageous.
  • Chartered status, or active progress towards chartership, is desirable but not essential.
