The Role
Strategic Ownership & Leadership
- Own and manage the cloud ecosystem across AWS, Azure, and GCP, ensuring they operate with high efficiency, strong governance, and predictable costs.
- Lead a small team of cloud engineers, guiding and coaching them in roadmap creation, prioritization, execution, and skills development.
- Act as a strategic advisor to engineering, architecture, and business stakeholders on sandbox governance, usage patterns, and optimization strategies.
- Establish and enforce policies for onboarding, offboarding, resource lifecycle, and access management for users.
Operational Excellence & Automation
- Design and implement automation for sandbox provisioning, quota management, access approval workflows, scheduling, and spin‑up/ spin‑down processes.
- Develop and maintain reusable automation frameworks (Terraform, Ansible, Python, Cloud‑native tools) for repeatable lab operations.
- Create self‑service capabilities and guardrails for sandbox users to reduce manual effort and improve governance.
- Collaborate on lab, demo, and proof of concept engagements with internal and external stakeholders.
FinOps, Cost Governance & Optimization
- Implement a FinOps‑aligned operating model for all accounts including tagging standards, cost allocation, budget enforcement, and showback/chargeback across all clouds.
- Continuously analyze cloud spend trends, forecast usage, and proactively identify opportunities for rightsizing, decommissioning, and efficiency improvements.
- Build automation for policy‑based cleanup of unused/ idle resources.
Security, Governance & Compliance
- Define and implement security guardrails, baseline configurations, identity/access rules, and monitoring policies for sandbox environments.
- Ensure compliance with organizational governance controls and enforce boundaries between sandbox and production environments.
- Implement monitoring dashboards, alerts, and operational metrics to ensure visibility and control.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Proactively introduce new approaches, tools, and technologies to make lab and demo operations more efficient, secure, and cost‑effective.
- Conduct periodic reviews of account usage patterns to identify opportunities for consolidation, automation, or architectural improvements.
- Partner with cloud providers, vendors, and internal teams to evaluate new services and establish best practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, or cloud operations roles, with at least 3 years in a technical leadership or team‑lead position.
- Strong hands‑on expertise with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and working knowledge of the other two.
- Demonstrated experience in managing large or multi‑tenant cloud environments, including governance, account/projects/subscription management.
- Strong automation experience using Terraform, CloudFormation, Python, PowerShell, Ansible, or similar tools.
- Understanding of Cloud Networking Concepts, such as AWS VPCs, Transit Gateways, Azure VNets, Public DNS with AWS Route 53 and VPN tunnel creation from the hyperscaler side.
- Familiarity with Cloud Compute and Storage such as EC2 Instances, Azure Virtual Machines, Google Compute Engine, AWS S3/EBS/EFS and/or Azure Disk Storage.
- Proven expertise in FinOps, cloud cost governance, and optimization frameworks.
- Strong understanding of cloud security, IAM, guardrails, monitoring, and policy management.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and mentoring skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certifications: AWS Solutions Architect / Azure Architect Expert / GCP Professional Cloud Architect.
- Prior experience in managing demo or lab environments, platform engineering, or multi‑cloud landing zones.
- Experience with cost analytics tools (CloudHealth, Flexera, Cloud Custodian, Kubecost, native cost tools).
- Knowledge of container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD workflows.
- Exposure to Cloud Centers of Excellence (CCoE) or platform engineering teams.
