Job summary

Coalition in Powai, Mumbai seeks a skilled Investment Banking Research Analyst to contribute to benchmarking models and market sizing for IB products. The role involves data analysis, model building, and presenting findings to clients and senior management.

You will work with a global team to gather data, maintain sector databases, and deliver insights for client initiatives in IB strategy and investor communications. Strong Excel/PowerPoint and English fluency are essential.

Qualifications

• MBA or post graduate degree in finance, business management, statistics, economics or similar analytical fields.
• Professional certifications like CFA, FRM, CAIA etc. would be an added advantage
• Must have at least 2 years of experience in managing a team size of 5 to 6
• Strong quantitative skills, an analytical & Logical mindset and an ability to work with significant amounts of data, both numerical and qualitative
• Ability to take decisions while working with unstructured and limited information
• Prior experience in financial research / analytics
• Sound knowledge of global capital markets or secondary markets products preferred
• A strong degree of independence and self-motivation
• Responsible attitude and ability to complete tasks proactively and in a timely manner (both for self and the team)
• Fluency in spoken and written English is essential
• Excellent working skills with MS office tools, especially good at advanced Excel and PowerPoint
• Working knowledge of professional information services like Bloomberg, Thomson Reuters etc preferred

Responsibilities

• Build or assist in building and maintaining Investment Banks benchmarking models to estimate granular KPIs and market size for IB products
• Model relationships between macro indicators and IB performance metrics to forecast KPIs
• Update and restructure benchmarking models using qualitative and quantitative information from Coalition contacts in the IB industry
• Independent decision making to derive product revenues / HC estimates from deep dive research
• Build and update sector databases in Excel and/or customized applications
• Explain, defend and customize Coalition analysis for client initiatives in IB strategy and investor communications
• Gather information using diverse sources including online databases and external researchers
• Assist clients and research team members on multiple projects
• Communicate research results through structured end-products (spreadsheets, reports, presentations)
• Mentor and train new research analysts
• Complete ad hoc research and business development projects as needed
• Manage and/or supervise a team of analysts on multiple projects
• Conduct regular workflow meetings with Account managers in London, New York and Singapore
• Foster a cohesive and productive team environment
• Delegate responsibilities and motivate team to drive performance

This opportunity is based in Powai, Mumbai. The successful individual in this position will be able to make an immediate effective contribution by drawing upon their previous experience and developing it further by utilizing expertise within Coalition globally.

The job involves conducting Investment banking financial research to support clients and contribute to the internal knowledge building efforts. Typical projects will involve gathering, analyzing, synthesizing and presenting data using structured methodologies, assumptions, and frameworks. Projects may take couple of days to several weeks for completion.

Key responsibilities involve:

• Build or assist in building and maintaining Investment Banks benchmarking models to estimate granular, product level key performance metrics (e.g., Revenue and Headcount) and create market size estimates for Investment and transaction banking products
• Model relationships between macroeconomic indicators and IB performance metrics to arrive at forecasts/ estimates for the above KPIs
• Update and restructure benchmarking models based on qualitative and quantitative information from Coalition contacts in the IB industry
• Independent decision making to derive product revenues / HC estimates based on deep dive product research and extrinsic indicators baked into the quantitative model.
• Build and update sector databases in Excel and/or customized applications
• Explain, defend and customize Coalition analysis to support key client initiatives in IB strategy, sales franchise decision, investor communication and for senior management consumption
• Craft effective search strategies and gather relevant information leveraging a broad set of resources (e.g. on-line databases, internet articles, external researchers etc.). Utilize both secondary and primary research sources and techniques
• Assist clients and/or other research delivery team members in articulating and refining research requests and projects, while working on multiple projects
• Communicate research results through the creation of structured end-products (spreadsheets, reports, presentations etc.)
• Mentor and train new research analysts

• Complete ad hoc research requests, knowledge building and business development projects as necessary
• Manage and/ or work with an expanded team of analysts while working on multiple projects
• Conduct regular workflow meetings with the in – house and onsite Account managers in London, New York and Singapore
• Foster a cohesive, creative and comfortable working environment, mediating any personal issue within the team
• Delegate responsibilities and supervise the work of team members providing guidance and motivation to drive maximum performance.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

The successful candidate will have to demonstrate the following skills, experience and attributes likely to have been gained over two to six years’ relevant experience:
