AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Public Health Engineer to lead PHE design across building services, working with UK and Middle East projects. You will coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and deliver compliant designs for water, drainage, sanitary, and firefighting systems.

Requirements include a PHE degree, 2–4 years of relevant consultancy experience, and proficiency in Revit and BIM methods. Strong English communication and collaborative work ethic are essential.

• 2–4 years of Public Health Engineer experience in building services.
• Experience delivering PHE design in consultancy environments.
• Ability to design per BS, IPC, CIBSE and NFPA standards.
• Revit and BIM delivery experience.

Responsibilities

• Design PHE systems (water, sanitary, drainage, firefighting) per relevant standards.
• Perform engineering calculations using industry-standard software.
• Coordinate with Architecture, Civil and Structural teams.
• Present design solutions to clients and contractors.
• Ensure delivery within time and budget constraints.
• Contribute to rail/metro PHE designs where required.

Overview

The Engineer will lead and contribute to the design, coordination and delivery of building engineering solutions for projects across the UK and Middle East (ME) regions. The role requires effective collaboration with Lead Project Offices (LPOs), robust technical review of project outputs and a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions that comply with relevant standards, client requirements, project timelines and budgetary constraints.

Your role

• Undertake designs in accordance with local and international standards, including those applicable in the Middle East and the UK.
• Understand and apply British/European, Middle East, and Atkins standards.
• Design a variety of Public Health Engineering (PHE) systems, including:
  • Domestic cold and hot water services
  • Sanitary and vent systems
  • Underground drainage systems
  • Firefighting systems (wet and dry riser designs)
• Perform engineering calculations using industry-standard software.
• Ensure projects are completed within agreed time and cost constraints.
• Assist the Team Leader/Senior Engineer in presenting design solutions during meetings with clients and contractors.
• Undertake PHE designs for rail and metro stations, trackside facilities, depots, and other railway infrastructure.
• Coordinate with other disciplines and enhance interdisciplinary collaboration with Architecture, Civil, and Structural teams.

About you

• Degree in Public Health Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
• Previous experience in a PHE engineering or design role within a consultancy environment.
• Relevant experience of 2-4 years as a Public Health Engineer within building services.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the application of:
  • British Standards (BS)
  • UAE Codes of Practice
  • LEED
  • NFPA
  • CIBSE
  • UPC
  • IBC
• Experience working in a multidisciplinary environment with a strong understanding of coordination and interfaces with other disciplines.
• Experience on infrastructure projects, with recent rail project experience preferred.
• Proficient in IT tools, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and industry-standard design software.
• Broader knowledge of other engineering disciplines is desirable.
• Ability to deliver work effectively and integrate within larger project teams.
• Strong report-writing skills and experience presenting to and attending meetings with clients.

Mandatory Requirements

• Proactive approach to work.
• Membership of IOP, IET, or CIBSE, with progression toward CEng or IEng status preferred.
• Relevant experience as a designer within building services.
• Ability to design in accordance with BS, IPC, CIBSE, and NFPA standards.
• Experience with Revit and successful delivery of projects using BIM methodologies.
• Demonstrates the required level of competence and responsibility appropriate to the role grade.
• Maintains a collaborative and productive work environment by communicating openly about project activities and status.
• Excellent command of the English language with strong written and verbal communication skills.
