Job summary

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent in HSS/Management/Arts/Science with 2+ years in journal publishing or peer review operations.
  • Experience in reviewer selection and manuscript handling workflows is beneficial.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to convey information clearly and concisely.
  • Proactive team member who can support colleagues and other journals as needed.
  • Proficient in MS Office tools.

Responsibilities

  • Review manuscripts in ScholarOne to assess editorial readiness for peer review.
  • Invite suitable peer reviewers until at least two reviews are obtained.
  • Evaluate peer review reports and make recommendations based on editorial review.
  • Run reports from ScholarOne or similar systems.
  • Maintain strong communication with editors, authors, reviewers, and Sage staff worldwide.
  • Work with minimal supervision and adhere to workflow timelines.
  • Respond to journal mailbox queries in a timely, professional manner.

  • 1. You will regularly correspond with the Managing Editor to report to him/her in a prescribed reporting format on a daily or weekly basis via email, or video conference for assistance with training, troubleshooting, and ensuring that the peer review websites are functioning effectively for each individual journal.
  • 2. Based in the SAGE India office, you will regularly correspond, as advised, with all concerned in the SAGE India/UK/US/other location offices to report in a prescribed reporting format on a daily or weekly basis via email or video conference.
  • 3. You will be expected to maintain high quality communication and excellent relationships with journal editors, authors, reviewers, and other SAGE staff.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • 1. Review submitted manuscripts in ScholarOne to assess suitability and editorial readiness for peer review.
  • 2. Select and invite suitable peer reviewers for individual manuscripts until at least the manuscript receives sufficient good enough reviews (usually 2) in order to recommend/make a decision. Reviewer suitability is to be assessed by considering all potential conflict(s) of interest(s).
  • 3. Evaluate the peer review reports received and make recommendations decisions on manuscripts based on peer review reports and editorial review.
  • 4. Periodically run reports out of ScholarOne or any other peer review management system.
  • 5. Maintain positive working relationships and top‑quality communication with journal editors, authors, reviewers, and SAGE staff throughout the world.
  • 6. Perform assigned work with little to no supervision from the managers in SAGE India/UK/US and adhering to the workflow timelines.
  • 7. Respond to journal mailbox queries, when assigned, from journal editors, authors, reviewers, and SAGE staff.
Others:
  • 1. Respond to any email inquiries from fellow journal editors, authors, reviewers, and other SAGE staff within 48 hours of receiving the email (excluding weekends and holidays), and respond in a clear, articulate, and organized manner.
  • 2. Occasional correspondence with the support staff at ScholarOne may be necessary to troubleshoot issues with the ScholarOne site.
  • 3. Assist fellow SAGE staff with any projects or initiatives, as requested.
  • 4. Provide guidance, training and assistance to fellow team members or any other colleague as assigned.
SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS EXPERIENCE
  • 1. A minimum of a Master s degree or equivalent in HSS/Management/Arts/Science with at least 2 year of experience in journal publishing or peer review operations, with basic experience in reviewer selection and manuscript handling workflows.
  • 2. Strong communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly and concisely.
  • 3. Supportive team member who is able to provide support to fellow Peer Review Associates and Editorial Assistants on other journals as needed and defined by supervisor.
  • 4. Proficient knowledge of MS office tools.
  • 5. Communicate effectively with all; helpful and cooperative; should be courteous and disciplined.
  • 6. Engage in other activities, as needed, to achieve company and department goals
